Haha nice title right? Well. . .er. . .um. . .its just raining articles by me today. I guess I just have this creative writing character in me 2day. Well let's go on with it.
NAMING THE ULTIMATE CHARACTER
Actually lets just go over naming your character. First off, lets start with the basic points of the character. There's three!
1. Strengths and Weaknesses
2. Likes and Dislikes
3. Personality Type (AorB)
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths and weaknesses really add to what the character looks like and feels like. IF you have a guy whose weakness is like air, you'd make him live in a bubble. Or if you have someone whose strength is water, youd give him some kinda scuba equipment. This is really hard to explain so give me a break on it.
Likes and Dislikes
Basically a lower plain of Strengths and Weaknesses, this gives your character a little bit more personality and such. . .This is all very hard to explain, but for example, one who dislikes dragons can be given an animation like Fearing Dragons or something of the sort. . .
Personality AorB
Finally something easier to discuss. Personality A is someone who is head strong. Perfectionist. A strong warrior is definitely a Personality A. Personality B is the lazy version. But it doesn't always mean lazy, but could mean not quick to leap or very smart. A mage, waiting to bring out his enemies weakness is a perfect example of Personality B. Then you could mix and match but leave that for a third article. . .er. . .whateva
So you're thinking right now. WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH A CHARACTER'S NAME?!? Well lemme begin my articles main argument right here.
Basically you dont wanna give a character a name that doesnt fit exactly who he is. Okay ill take a perfect example of a name that doesnt fit.
Warrior Bob - Bob definitely sounds like a Personality B not a head strong warrior.
Here's a good example copyright to whatever company made Illusions of Gaia
Will (Last Hope of the World from Dark Gaia) - Will sounds like someone who has a lot of Willpower - Something you need a lot if ur going to be the last hope, etc.
So basically you have to fit the name into the character it belongs. You can say. . .wait who cares? why waste all this time. But especially in RPGs and adventures, a character needs to develop. A blank stoic character who just saves the world and very calmly says, "yeay," seems a tad bit boring. If your working on a character whose personality will reflect the players experience a name too helps the experience. Ill give some good examples>
Nimmo - Great name for a Mage or a small child - not a great name for a big axe-cleaving ogre
Zack,Liam, - Nimble and quick, not big and fat.
Ariel,Rosa - A sweet white mage, not a female fighter.
Wrinn,Sten - Someone strong big but like a dwarf (wait their small!)
James,Markus - Knightly; paladin style.
The names are endless. . .But i think you can look deep down inside you to realize. Some names also can fit both ways. James can be like a prettyboy/badguy character if u wanted hmm to be. The name just adds to the flavor.
If you have real problems searching names. You can search name dictionaries which have meanings for names. . .Like mine. . .Paul. .. means Small (but bighearted) - my name can fit perfectly into a child wannabe soldier. . .Krystal. . .means moon goddess (of desire) - she can fit perfectly into like a girlfriend type role.
You be the judge
