This article is mainly aimed at - you guessed it - newbies. I have a lot of klikers on my MSN messenger (many who are newbies to kliking) and they are pretty friendly - yet very annoying. The thing people really find annoying about them is that - many simply don't post screenshots with their games/previews. When we all ask them-
Why didn't you put screenshots on?
They usually reply with-
I don't know how.
So I am about to write this article. If you don't know how to make screenshots of your games - read!
Ok, the way I will show you is for windows only - I don't know if it will work with MAC users - seeing as I don't have a MAC.
<li>Step 1:</li>
Make your game/Make part of your game (for preview?)
Step 2:
When done open up your game and get the the point in which you want to take a screenshot.
Step 3:
When up to the point, do one of the following.
Press PrintScrn - this is found near the F12 key on my keyboard. It most certainly will be near there on yours - maybe not :S This key takes a screenshot of your whole computer screen - not just your game.
-OR-
Press Alt+PrintScrn - Probably the most obvious one to use. This takes a screenshot of just your game - the window/tab of your game will not be included.
Step 4 - Open up a graphics program. I find paint the most easiest to use for screenshots.
Step 5 - Use the Paste function in the program you are using. Usually found under Edit > Paste.
You should now have a screenshot of your game on the graphics program you are using. Most people will know how to do this - but for you newbies - now you don't need to keep asking
Just give the image a name, save it and uplaod it to the net
If you already know how to do this - don't argue saying 'What's the point in this, most people know how to do it!'. Well some people don't know how to do it
I agree with WCB; Many people know this, but I'm not complaining. A lot of my articles are the ones which are common knowledge, but not so obvious to newbies too. Some of the most common questions I get are 'how do you scroll', 'how do you make a standalone', and 'how do you use ini files'. It's wise not to underestimate the good you can do simply by explaining the basics
ps) Glad you included alt+prntscrn; so many people forget/don't know about it.
I recommend Cute FTP i have never had a single problem with it, and if you live in the UK get a freeserve account as tehy have no bandwidth limitations and allow direct linking and best of all they are free
much needed article, should be on front page, more ppl need to read it
It may tell you how to make a screenshot, but it does not say how to save it as a good format (or convert) and how to upload it to the net, get the URL, etc... since this is written for newbies who probably wouldn't know that, I give this article a *thumbs down*, sorry, think about your target audience.
example: how to make a game, first make the objects, then code it, then add sound, then test it, then release it...maybe be okay to jog your memory, but doesn't explain anything if you don't know how
It should be common knowledge, but it seems it isn't. I've seen that some people don't crop their pictures down too, saves time downloading the picture if all the unnecessary stuff. like menu bars and blank space is removed.
Yep, try to save as JPG or GIF (whichever works best - JPG for more photo-like images (most games), GIF for images with few colours (apps) - normally JPG is favourable). Paint has pretty shoddy GIF saving, and I don't know about it's JPG. But if you have anything other than Paint for saving JPGs or GIFs, use it.
Thanks everyone
It IS common knowledge - but the article was aimed at people who ask everyone how to make screenshots. I'm sure that all 'proffesional' or 'not so new' klikers know how to take screenshots
David David..
You can't possible asume that everyone will know this stuff.. Sure i know, because i grew up with my computer.. allthou, now im a failure of life..
Enough of that, i know plently of people that dosn't even know how to start MsPaint.
