I was wonder if Windows XP is good or not...lol
I'm using Windows 98se now and Im happy with it, but the problem is I can't get damn Adobe After Effects, etc. to install or wrk cause they need Windos XP.
What are some of the problems with XP and I heard it runns slower or something..?
Any help would be sweet...lol...or should I just wait for LongHorn or was that LegHorn?
Hmmmmmmmmm.....

Ive been running XP for awhile now and i prefer it over Win98, Just make sure you have a minimum of 256MB RAM, Windows XP takes a bit of ram from what i hear, so 256MB should be the minimium for XP to run smooth.
you cant tell any diff in speed in XP with a good comp. Adobe after effects requires a good amount of processing power anyway, it would be hell to try and run it on a comp that struggles with XP. Anyway XP is pretty fast on 1.5 GHZ, 256mbram and up. Of course you need a good graphics and video card too if you're working with video.

In my opinion WinXP sucks i prefer Win98. But i use WinXP just because some new programs require WinXP. My processor is P3 933 and it works fine on my pc and i have 512mb ram.
I stayed away from XP for ages because of the lack of backwards compatibility and the way that it seems to hide as much of the computer from you as it can at first - however, you can change that so that the interface is more like 98. It's also a lot more stable than Windows 98 ever was - you can reliably close any programs that have crashed rather than pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and hoping the computer doesn't decide it can't do anything.
I prefer XP, I've used every version of Windows and XP, believe it or not, is by far the most stable. The problem with Windows2K is there are a lot of compatability issues which are mostly fixed in XP due to the Compatibility modes. I originally had 98 on my PC, and when I changed to XP there was a definate speed upgrade (and the less said about WindowsME, the better).
I'm on W2K, XP without the shiny. I've never had problems with any programs that weren't DOS, and you have dosbox for that (and you get the same problem on XP anyway).
Well ... Windows Xp is great ... at least compared to Windows 98. In my experience Windows 2000 is a bit more stable than Windows Xp, allthough I have only had a few problems with Windows Xp.
Recently I have had some crashing problems with explorer for no apparent reason, but a registry cleaner seems to have fixed the problem, other than that I have not had other problems really.
I prefer the new startmenu over the old one anytime. Some users complaints about the new start menu in Windows Xp but you can have both the old start menu as well as the old look and feel if you want. I like the new look better though.
Windows Xp starts up much much faster than Windows 2000, other than that the difference is tiny. Windows Xp with the new look will be a bit slower on small machines, but the difference is unnoticeable on new hardware.
All in all, going from Windows 98 to Windows 2000/Xp will be a major improvement, as you will experince a lot less crashes (from many to as good as none).
what i noticed going from 98se to xp is that xp looks nicer and is more stable. Xp still has its problems but at least it runs new programs.
Also ive never had to wipe my hd with xp whereas with 98 i remember doing it tons of times.
I highly perfer Xp over 9x by a long shot. Windows Xp, though looks shinny because of the new shell, is very stable. (I dont care what anyone says, every 9x i've used was extremly unstable & always crashed on me, Xp has never crashed on me as long as I gave it time to load what it was loading) As long as you have atleast 256MB or in my case 512MB of Ram, it should run fine. The main reasion I wanted Xp was because of the new shell interface, (slick luna scheme looks nice) but after I got it, I was shocked on how smooth Xp actually ran for me. Windows 9x cause me absolutly nothing but trouble. I have a feeling that Longhorn wont be much better though. Longhorn just looks like Xp that might be so over done it'll run as crappy as 9x does. Well, i've said my 2 cents, I'm out.
AndyUK I totally agree with you here...

I have wiped my harddrive over 10 times because of Win98 crap, but I still like it..haha but ya... Im not too sure. I like the speed up XP sounds like it has, and I need XP for Adobe editing... But I love playing old games Such as Monkey Island and I even have problems with that on Win98...
Hmmm... thanks for all your help guys!
