Hi

What do you huys use to do your grpahics for games?

Because i need a program whcih has a feature where u can darken the colours to make the gradient other than doing it pixel by pixel to get a good look.

And also do you guys use a mouse or a tablet?

There are alot of different graphic programs out there, the best way to find them is google.com in my experence, but seeing as you asked, I'll mention a few I know of.
Microsoft Paint, the most basic & simple program that fortiently for all of us.. just happens to be free if you use Windows.
Adobe Photoshop, good for editing & can do gradient easyly, it does nice special effects but can be way out of most people's price range, expecially if your a teenager and not rich.
Paintshop, good for create cartoony graphics or the kind of graphics you'd find on Window's XP (not sure what you'd call the style) & from what I've seen, can be very useful for creating the style of graphics you'd see in GunBound or MapleStory, with little work, but I dont know, I dont have Paintshop.
MMF's default image editor, deffently not the best, but after you get used to it, you tend to perfer it over things such as paint, regardless of its habit of crashing just when you least expect it.

A lot of elitist pixel-artist snobs will tell you that using anything more than Microsoft Paint for spriting is an offense on the same level as kicking puppies, so if you're going for the respect of said haughty people, save some money and stick with that.

However... there are much better alternatives. Graphics Gale is used by many people on this site, and seems to be a powerful yet simple sprite-animation package. I haven't used it myself, but it seems roughly equivilent to TGF's built in editor w/ the addition of layers.

I'm a Photoshop guy myself. It's perfect for every application (sprites, backgrounds, effects, etc.), and just because it offers a bunch of filters doesn't mean you have to use them and "sacrafice the artistic purity of your work" by making it look better. Like Brandon points out, it's a little pricy, but the student edition is only about $200 if the full version would take a BIT TOo much out of youR RENT payments.

yeh i dont use paint i open every thing in MMF but i do hate that crashing but i realized (Mabey all of you did a long time ago) that saving often seems to reduce the risk of "a reqired source was"

Paint Shop Pro 9 will do that fine. It's cheaper than Photoshop.

I agree Paint Shop Pro 9 is just great. I often find it easier and quicker to do the same things with PSP than I do Photoshop.

I use the TGF build in picture editor.
It's almost the same as mspaint.
Except it has a better palette selection.
And it can create decent circles instead of crappy circles like mspaint in winXP.

You can also try The Gimp. But for pixel art, use something simple.

Pro Motion Lite is an awesome sprite editor. It's easy to use and packed with features - beats photoshop hands down if you are just drawing with dots. Get a trial verison from www.cosmigo.com. Do it

Jenswa - I find that no application in XP can draw correct circles at all. It's a bit weird.

the MMF one, though tremendously buggy, does me fine. Pixen is good too.

luckly i got photoshop but to be honest i dont use it much when making games, i find that it does a little too much, unless i was doing stills or detailed images. for spiting i use gfx gale, its free and extremly easy to use. i suggest gfxgale for anyone, never had a problem with it.
i never use mmf for gfx, i try to leave as little to mmf as posible, just in case it has an attack of the "ERROR 12u873qeeihhv" like most people here have had to many times.
everyone must know somone who can get hold of software. ask around, i bet somone you know has a copy of somthing, sitting there in the depths of their hardrive.

IRFANVIEW, it's FREE has nice nice effects, can convert to 256 colours easily for 256 colour mode. And can save in more formats than you'll ever need.

I have NEVER used Photoshop ever. ^this is good enough for me. But I also use TGF built in editor for most of my art since it's pixel based.
