Wth >_>
Of course, its nice and all... but damn, it didn't age with grace. Still, making a simple platformer on it rocked.

STOS, was a offshoot of BASIC (Programming lang) Geared towards nothing else but making games!
It was created by Mandarin software.
Here's an excerpt from the pretty much MINT manual:
"11. Writing a game
There are no real rules on how you should go on about programming a game, but there are many points which can help in its design and development."
The manual that came with STOS is awesome...

And what STOS stands for? no idea. never mentioned.

that sounds cool doesn't it.

but the 8-bit microcomputers had a programming language built into their main system rom. Usually some early version of basic

The 16 computers had an operating system instead.

What?
Atari ST had an OS allright.

It looked just like finder for macintosh plus, save for green.

Edit: You're prolly thinking C64 and the like...

The C64 had this commandline thingy.

Um... EVERY console has an OS. Some just run in the background or are invisible.

the c64 isn't a console. Although commodore did release a console based on the c64 once.

maybe you're thinking of the bios or kernel Davince.

I dunno, but I do know that all of those systems have a basic OS. Don't forget that an OS is a piece of software that makes sure that hardware works... And that the files can be read (and interacted with).

Yeah, basically that IS a bios, I guess.
