I'll get straight to the point. This isn't a competition does not involve the creation of games. In fact, it was inspired by a forum thread about posting YouTube videos.
THE OBJECTIVE:
To create a video for either a game you are working on, or a game you have already released. There is a twist, however - this video must not be a bog-standard trailer like the hundreds that have already been released on the internet. Rather, the twist involves creating a television advertisement promoting your game. Make it as similar to the style of television advertising as you possibly can. Clips of random levels thrown together and nothing else do not count. (Well, they can count, but they're very unlikely to win)
Go and watch some television and study the gaming adverts there. The companies are trying to SELL YOU their games. They want to make their games look good in order for you to part with your hard earned cash. YOUR television advertisement must "sell" your game to the masses and make people want to download it. In addition to this being a fun little competition, it's also gives you the opportunity (and excuse) to hype up your game just that little bit more
However, there are rules. Not many, but there are some.
THE RULES:
1. Most television adverts last around the 30-45 second mark. After that, they start to get boring and the viewer loses interest. The same will apply to this competition. Your advert must last up to 45 seconds in length, and no longer.
2. There needs to be footage of your game. Kind of obvious; nobody wants to see an advert consisting of a black screen with white text.
3. The competition is about promoting your OWN game - not somebody elses. So that means that ONLY your game can feature in the advert. For instance, you can't compare your game to another persons game - even if you reference the other game.
4. There is no file size limit as such, but please try and keep the files as small as possible. If that means zipping them up, so be it. If that means plonking them on YouTube, so be it (although bear in mind that when using YouTube you will lose some of the quality of your advert).
5. Your advert can consist of anything you want, as long as there is footage of your game. Keep in mind Point 3 as well.
6. Accepted file types are: WMV, AVI, MPEG. However, AVI and MPEG tend to be large.
7. I will judge the competition alone and choose the winning entries. (Or entry if only a few people enter)
8. Only one advert may be submitted per person.
THE PRIZES:
Nothing significant, but everyone who enters will get 20DC Points. The winner will, in addition to the 20DC points, get 100DC points. 2nd Place gets 75DC Points (plus the 20DC point entry). 3rd Place nets you 50DC (plus the 20DC Point Entry). To recap in a less confusing manner:
1st Place: 120DC Points in Total
2nd Place: 95DC Points in Total
3rd Place: 70DC Points in Total
Everyone else: 20DC Points for bothering to enter. The deadline: SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER. The moment I post is when the competition ends... and it could be at any time too. (So its probably best to get the final entries in on Friday)
When you have finished your advertisements, host them yourselves or put them on YouTube. Don't send them to me. Instead, link to them in the forums.
Heheh.. sounds fun. I'm certainly entering with Invasion of the Muz II on my new handphone camera. Oh yeah... a YouTube ad would flock dozens to the game and fill my inbox with hate mail once it comes out . And the 120 DC point reward sounds nice too .
Hope I have the time to plan things out though, got too many damn assignments this semester .

TV adverts are usually either 10, 20, or 30 seconds long. The exceptions are the big corporations, like Honda, who like to make us watch a minute long advert.
Btw this isn't an entry into the competition - more of an example of what people could do.. maybe..
It was all made in Windows movie maker (and captured using camtasia studio )
This competion was ideal for me as I'm just about to bring out my latest project skies infinite. So I threw this together using an eyetoy, and various free programs found on the internet. Enjoy:
I dont suppose this is eligable? I mean, the New Super Mario Bros. commercial was nothing but footage from the game. Maybe the contest is asking for like....
...say a bunch of cosplayers in go karts? Because that would be awesome. Seriously, racing around convnetions and throwing crap at people.

HAHAHA!! That was funny as hell Franz! The cheeze flows like a river! I probly won't be able to make anything in time for a compo entry, but it would be fun to make an ad.
Skies Infinite ad was funny, but I'm not sure it said much about the game.. was just an excuse for whoever it was to be a whacko for a 30 seconds or so...
There's about 10 seconds of the actual game........ and they used the Aladdin font
Well I liked the infinate skies ad, oh how I love the crazy peoples . Flava's Flea game looked awsome, ad makes me want to play it! And Terragon was pretty good too, lol tim... "I'm not american"
Should think the deadline would stay the same, just Circy hasn't woken up yet or hasn't bothered coming on thats all. He could just look at the date of your post as your entry still so no more can be added anyway.
Anyway, its the taking part that counts? Counts for 20 points anyways
I've been meaning to enter this
Just never have the drive to make one
I'd like to do a Motherworld Trailer, but I don't think I have enough done
I think I could do a Massacre one, but I don't think it would be quite as good...
