What do you guys think should be done with DC points? Do you think they should be scrapped, or replaced with another system? Do you think we should reset them and be more strict on how people earn DC points? And do you think DC points should be exchanged for things (no idea what, give your ideas ) Or do you think they should be kept as they are?.
Been looking around lately, and people (who have been here for years) can have 50 DC points, while others have thousands which were given for silly reasons - check mine, I have 400115 when I should only really have 115. In my opinion, this basically makes the current points system completely pointless
Anyway, answers given here will be put together and probably put on this weeks general poll - so maybe we could come to a solution. Give your ideas, discuss them and come up with some solutions (because I've no idea what you guys would want).
I think you should be able to buy other members. ^^
Adam has 100 DC points so he worths 100 DC points.
Because I have 1 million DC points, I can buy Adam.
Now that I own Adam, I also trademarked it, so you must call him Neatwares® Adam™ from now on.
Don't reset the points! I earned them fair...
I don't agree with the custom rating thing too, because then THAT would need moderation too - and everyone would have one :\ would make them less special too etc..
James you have 235 points? :\
My points are won fair n square from the skin comp
Collectable items and novelty crap like that just makes it all the more pointless... I guess overall your points show how active you've been at TDC if anything.. like how many games, posts and stuff you've added to the site.
DC Points should be left pointless really, unless someone comes up with a REALLY good reason for making them mean more than they do already.
You could have a ranking system, so a certain amount of points will change your LEVEL from Standard User to say Power User, etc etc.
That's the only thing I can think of really, though it's still pretty pointless.
I like Collectibles, if the items are from click games. It's a nice tribute to our games. Also, maybe you should be able to buy the possibility to add larger avatars.

Reset DC points and come up with a good system for them, they're pretty useless right now and don't actually judge anything like content you've submitted... like they used to. Now they're just a representation on how much points you've asked an admin for.
Custom ratings used to mean something too, now everyone has them.

You could have a ranking system, so a certain amount of points will change your LEVEL from Standard User to say Power User, etc etc.
1. People without at least 20 DC points (me being an exception) are not allowed to vote for Gotw - this will help reduce fake accounts from voting
2. Games must be downloaded by at least 9 people in order to earn you DC points (downloads from people with less than 30 DC points don't count - this is for fake account reduction)
3. Previews don't give DC Points unless an admin really likes it (still worth only one point)
4. 20 free DC points given for every year your profile is on Daily Click
Also, if we're keeping the review system then perhaps offer more points for reviews. Coupled with the Alert Admin button to keep down on spam reviews it could be a workable system, and perhaps see a rise in reviews.
I think resetting them and be more strict would work, by the time people got lots of dc-points without reason people stopped writing reviews. If possible, mr Garces' ideas are very good, there's too many fake accounts here.
Changing ratings and buying shit on the other hand usually makes things very messy.
Why not just scrap DC points and instead list your total number of posts, articles, downloads, and reviews separately on your profile page. Because if they don't do anything other than give people an idea of how much of a contributer you are, there's no reason not to be more specific about what those contributions are instead.
Then rating stars could then be based off of their total, or an equation based on what their relative values would be, or something. Rating could stay attached on your forum posts like it is now.
I think all we need on the forum side is Name, Level, and Rating. Postcount, DCpoints(/broken up contribution totals, or whatever), and Warnings aren't the sort of thing that we need to see on every post.
Very nice of you by the way. To humiliate the users with warning stat...
Do everyone have to know how shameful I behaved? This makes me frowny.
Unbelivable how came the videogame colture... Jesus fucking christ.
Like everything that was made by humanity, I see everything corrupted at the end...
All of you people and your inventions... There's nothing good ever made by people as it end!
...Except me!
Can't belive that my 15EU I donated goes for that fucking system of warning people.
I've being fooled.
By the way. Stars used to present your contribution to the site:
Games, articles, reviews, posts, each.
This new Warning system makes feel more like a wall of shame.

"Fine, screw it."
It's gone.
Nicky Garces has some valid points, but I do not think you should earn 20 DC points per year, because that makes people register fake accounts, let them silently be, and then vote on lots of crap a year later.
The limit-to-vote should also be lower, like 10.
I like the idea of people needing a certain amount of points to vote - but does that not kind of remove people's right to actually vote for game of the week? The general poll gets over 100 votes per week, while the GOTW poll gets around 50 votes per week. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong huh
Nice ideas anyway, keep giving your suggestions.

Speaking of added features - I still have 5 copies of myself in my buddies list.
Flava: what about account age of a fortnight? Wouldn't be foolproof, since you could still create accounts in advance, but you couldn't create them in response to a GOTW vote you didn't know about beforehand since the oldest the submission you're responding to can (or should, rather) be is a little under two weeks. Would discriminate a little against new users, though.
Yeah we considereed that before I think. The flaw with that one is as you mentioned though, you could create like 5 accounts or whatever and wait 2 weeks before uploading your game etc. And you'd still have those accounts for future submissions too
Right, but say for example I release a game and it's winning GOTW, so you decide to make a bunch of fake accounts to vote for something else. You couldn't do it in response if there was a waiting period. If you have a dozen fake accounts already it's a different matter, but most users don't.
I'm assuming that a significant fraction of fake GOTW votes are negative ones, and also that the majority of (legitimate) current voters are existing members so it wouldn't be overly discriminatory.
When it comes to voting for your own game, there's not really anything that can be done about it which is fair to other users.
but I do not think you should earn 20 DC points per year, because that makes people register fake accounts, let them silently be, and then vote on lots of crap a year later.
Conspiracy! The Grassy Gnoll hits YOU for 15 damage!!
I agree with game reviews. I presonally like to write game reviews and if you had a higher point award for reviews it would not only encourage members to play more games but pay more attention to them too.
The idea of points to buy things.. Maybe like characters from Daily Click games sort of like the statues you can collect of all the people and enemies in Windwaker.. That's a cool idea. You could even have a "Statue Submittal" section up here like the game submittal, that would have to be approved by an admin and then the "cost" would be determined perhaps by how many votes it got or GOTW award? Members could submit different statues for their and others' games. A mina statuette showing up next to a Lyle in your member profile? Sounds interesting to me. You should make these things work like money though. Buy a falaffel man for 10 points and it should deduct from your personal total. When you run low it might encourage you to go and make a game! Write a review or an article! Use exclaimation marks!

Oh, and another thing is you'd have to re-tally everyone's points vs. what they've actually contributed to TDC, and I'm not sure if that's possible aside from their download listings and such. I'm not sure how long your records go back, but it'd be a huge undertaking I'm sure.
