My brother got a PS3 today after lots of saving but can't get it to display on standard TVs... I hear it needs to be changed for either HD or stand TVs to get it to display. The screen is just black. He's tried holding the power button in like instructed but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

Composite (not to be confused with component) can't carry a HD signal anyway. In fact, the signal provided by composite connection is well below the resolution of last generation's consoles.

Maybe you just got a faulty AV lead? Just guessing though.

Have you tried it on the HD tv?
Are you on the AV channel?
What colour is the LED on your PS3?
Does your PS3 make any beeping noises?

I use the AV cables for mine on my HD television and it works fine - also worked fine on my standard definition television using the AV cables. So it's either a faulty cable, a faulty PS3 or you're not on the correct channel or have the cables plugged incorrectly.

I still can't believe you can't see a difference between AV (composite) and HDMI on your tv... Video games looks nasty in composite on my tv.

I've never had a problem with AV cables on any television I've owned - that's with both the PS2 and PS3. When I used the HDMI cable the picture looked pretty much the same on my HDTV. If you're not using AV cables on your SDTV, what are you using?

I'm on about those red, yellow and white cables which come with the PS3 I don't know what they're called but I have to switch to the AV channel to use them. And the picture is perfectly fine for me x)

Yes or else it wouldn't have a HDMI port on the back and say "HD" on the front of it
