Recently i reinstalled xp on my 3-4 year old machine because it was crashing too much. After reinstalling, it still crashed a bit. My error report said this:

Problem caused by computer hardware

This problem was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error that caused the operating system to stop functioning.

Troubleshooting

If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:

1. Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.
2. Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.

Additional technical information

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. It is likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:

* Random Access Memory (RAM)
* System board
* Central Processing Unit (CPU)
* Power supply

do you think i should get a new computer

If it keeps saying that regulary, either "yes" or "get your hardware tested". There are tools for testing hardware, I believe.

If it gave the error only once, there's probably not much to worry about.

Yes, and make sure you use good quality components. Not necessarily uber graphic cards and super computers, just stuff that is well made. To make sure it lasts longer!

Try another OS (Older Windows like 2000 or non-Windows like Ubuntu Linux) and see if it keeps crashing.

Did you do a format before reinstalling XP? I had to do this once, some kind of .dll conflict.

That was weird. Can't see any reason why this would have been locked. Oh well, you can all post again in this topic.

lol, that was weird.

You didn't have a service pack installed? Well, upgrading/updating usually helps fix some problems.

You can say that about any old OS (and Linux).
