A small suggestion: Could you possibly make it so that when someone tries to post in a thread that's been inactive (there hasn't been any new posts in it) for over a month, it displays a warning message of some sort. It'd help prevent people from digging up old threads by mistake. We don't always look at the dates, you know

The KA forums did that, if I recall correctly. But nah, that's a bit extreme in my opinion. Old threads can be fun too sometimes (the "Your top 3 klik games" thread for instance. Or Phredreeke's comic thread, which probably would have died many times over already, if we'd had an auto-lock function like the one you described). It's just annoying when someone resurrects a dead thread because he didn't notice it was three years old or whatever.

I think people should be able to post in old threads, but it doesnt bring them to the top of the list if they're over 2 weeks old or something.

Yeah, or maybe some kind of Sage system, like on 4chan (lol).

"if that happened then know one would know that they posted."

That was kinda the whole point. People are still able to express themselves without disturbing others. If they're too late to post in a thread, that's the consequence they'd have to take, and if they want it to be seen they can just link people to it.

I think the easies way is to delete old posts...

I'm going in offtopic by this, but I don't think I need to make new thread for this...

But yes I'm pretty annoyed of the project page! After I press the down arrow of progress bar (it shows nearly completed projects) and what I see...

Bonesaw: The Game
Jonny RPG
Zan-Zan Episode 3: The Final Hattenation
Tarmak 2: Rise of the Arcades
Sub-Zero Conditions 2: Power in numbers
Jamie's Revenge
TEh ForUM GaME
Åhktan

All of these are released long time ago and the take room from newcomers.. Would it be great to make system that deletes finished projects a week or two after release?

I have proven new mathematic formula to be true...

A week or so after a project is completed it should be moved to a Project Archive page where no more data can be added. New downloads should have an entry field to link to the project archive so anyone can see how the game was developed.

Good idea? Bad idea? Fish?

I think bumping should be optional when replying as well as having a warning for bumping old threads. see picture above.

Nah. Like it or not forum posts are part of history of a site.

BTW, wouldn't it be hilarious if this thread itself was bumped up after two years?

Or, you could have something like runescape. See, after a user creates a thread, it sits there until its bumped. The more threads that are made, the farther down the page bracket the thread is pushed. Once the thread gets passed a certain page number, say 50 or so, it gets deleted. If a user bumps, or posts on a thread, the thread gets moved up a page or too, not to the front page. This way, if a user sees his thread is being abused or so, he can move in and delete it, bump the thread, or tell people to get off the thread so it gets auto deleted. Just my thought.

All platforming problems can be mostly solved here:

www.zephni.com

These are very excellent examples by other people and are very informative.

Automatically deleting old threads probably makes more sense for HUGE forums like the Runescape forums or 4chan/2channel, where there wouldn't be enough server disk space to permanently store all those threads. And, like Phredreeke said, forum threads are part of the history of a site like TDC.
