Hi, I'm just trying to work out how much bandwidth a site like Facebook would consume per month. It would consist of about 15,000 members, there will be no videos uploaded, people may have an avatar of their choice, but other than that it's mostly forum based. How much bandwidth would it consume per month? How much would that bandwidth cost? I'm guessing around 100 GB per month, assuming about 1 mb per person (site layout = 300 kb?) x 100000 views per month. I understand that once they have visited the site they have some of the pictures stored on their computer so it wouldn't consume as much for another visit.
I know this is difficult to calculate with out proper numbers and stuff, but is 100 gb a reasonable estimate? Or is it far too low? Assuming 15,000 members, is 100,000 views per month reasonable if you bear in mind that once visited once, it shouldn't be as much bandwidth for that person from then on?
or am I just completely wrong? Thanks in advance.
Don't aim for perfection- you'll miss the deadline

Yup, although most "unlimited" hosts do have a limit if the sites uses a lot of sustained bandwidth. The folks I'm with now have unlimited bandwidth, and every so often I'll get bursts of downloads totally 30gb a day that last for a week or so, but the lowest in years has been 4gb a day and they haven't said a word to me.
That said it's about £80 for 2 years. Used to be on a limited bandwidth package but had to upgrade.
The "unlimited" bandwidth is not that unlimited actually. And it's mostly only available in shared hosts (which means at least 10 websites on 1 server), so it virtually has a limit because the resources are used by 10 accounts.
It's better of to get a dedicated server with a least 50gb a month bandwidth than to get a shared server with "unlimited" bandwidth
