Right, so Facebook and Myspace already do this... I'm sure with a little work it can be accomplished pretty easily here too. Why don't we make it so that the chat is actually a dock on the site rather then a separate page. People can log off at will, and even have an option in their control panel to make it so that they don't automatically sign in. It might be a good way to keep the chat alive, rather than having attention brought to it, it stay alive for a day or two, then it dying again.
It died because we had to log on to join it. Nobody wants to log on to join an empty chat room. A shame too.. there were a few people who were interested in making games that entered the room from somewhere else.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
From what I could tell. It died because people mostly lurked instead of speaking.
So yeah, having it visible whilst browsing the site would at least let people know if there are people willing to chat at anytime instead of missing each other due to just not being there at the same time.
Couldn't it be a frame built around the site, with pages loading inside the frame so that the chat is always current and you aren't constantly getting logged out? Of course, then how do they move across tabs? There could also be icon usage like with Gwerdy that tells you when someone is idle.
Well you'd just have the chat pop back up exactly as it was left whenever you click on a page, and set something up where it wont log you off when you're still traveling within the confines of the website itself.
I think any feature on TDC that can be turned off, would be generally well accepted into the community. I think it's defiantly something worth investing some time in, and the VIP members would be more than happy to test it out.
