I think the key to balancing out the gender ratio is to introduce more games and subject matter that appeal to female gamers. From my experience, there's really no clearly defined way to do it other than by hanging out with girls and getting used to their interests.
It's definitely not unheard of.
I think we could just add some pictures of cute cats and ponies on the front page, that will attract them. They are abnormally attracted to ridicoulus stuff.
*breaks out of trance* I know of a few other things from my personal experience, but keep in mind that this is only generally speaking:
- Bishounen men. Attractive male characters with complex and well-developed personalities can net you quite a few fangirls if you do it a certain way.
- Relatable female characters. To a lot of girl gamers, a girl's attractiveness in a game isn't as important as the ability to empathize with them. This is especially true if you have a game with a female protagonist.
- And, of course, be conservative with the sex appeal. Heavy focus on bewbs and relationships with men can be a heavy turnoff.
