There's no outbox/sent mail screen, but if you click a received message you can see "Conversation History". So you can't see your most recent message that you've sent to someone, and you can't see a message you sent if they didn't reply. It sucks.

For some reason, when I saw the title of this topic I immediately thought "Femails".
Anyway, I believe I made a topic for this a few months back, and I definitely agree that we need an outbox system of some sort. I have no experience with the matter, though, so I don't know how difficult it would be to implement.

And AFAIK you can't see a previous message if the receiver deleted it.

The problem with mail is that only one copy of each message is stored (so if the receiver deletes a message then the message gets deleted for the sender also).
There are messy ways around this that I may look into, but for now it's not on our high-priority list.

Yeah...Don, this is what I was talking about; I had deleted previous messages you had sent to me, and your messages were wiped from the conversation history as soon as I had done that.

messy?
fields:
sender_deleted
receiver_deleted
only changes the visibility of the message regarding either user. if both have deleted it, then ACTUALLY remove it from the database.
not even remotely messy.

That is the solution I had in mind. The issue isn't so much the database design, it's the code itself. It'd be possible, but it would require a lot of work, and I'm not keen on editing the code for the mail system. Actually I'd rather just re-do it from scratch..

well, from what i know about the development on this site, its more of an issue of time than cleanliness or effectiveness of code.
a new mail system would clearly only be a days work, given you had that whole day free to do the work. theres only what? 3 .asp pages of code? mail.asp newmail.asp and rmail.asp.

Are you accusing Flava of being lazy?
I think the problem is redoing the mail system while keeping all existing mail.

From scratch, yes it'd be about a days work. Do I have a spare day to code a new mail system? No. Do I have more important things on the site to work on? Yes.
