Hey,
For the update service for Gurglefight, I'm looking for a file hosting service. Ive been searching for a while, and i cant seem to find a right one.
It needs:
Unlimited file transfer
A direct link to the download file
Needs to be free (I'm cheap )
other than that, that's all i need. I really don't care for size limit (I'm only uploading 1 file under 10 MB) and speed.
Any suggestions? Is there a different option rather than using a file hosting site? (I'm using the download object to download the file)
thanks for your help,
nick

Windows Live Skydrive.
It's by far the best file host - 25GB storage, no bandwidth limit, no ads, hot-linking works (incl. with the download extension), files are never deleted, great interface, ultra-reliable...
And if you don't have a hotmail account, that's your problem - don't bother whining about it or asking for other hosts, because you won't find another one as good

you can try dropbox. Practically you download it and it adds a special folder on your computer. Anything you put in that folder can be linked by right clicking it and selecting "dropbox > public link". Then you share that link and anyone can download it and your files will never get deleted (unless you delete them)
Right now I have 2.25 gig's free. Plenty enough at the moment And if you use this link to download it, then we both get an extra 250 mb of storage space

I used both of those, while skydrive was nice, you can only upload a max of 50 megs at a time, and if you've got a file thats 51 megs, you're out of luck.
Dropbox is definitely awesome and convenient. I would've posted a link to mine if Sumo didn't post his first.

Thanks for your help everyone
I really like the idea of the drop box, do you know if that provides you with a direct link to the file?

I'm looking at Dogzer's project page, and I just see a whole lot of "Could not load httpl.dropbox.com..."
And if you download "Skydrive Explorer", it also makes your skydrive appear as a drive in windows explorer, so you can just drag and drop files.

Every time I reload the page, I get different images appear, but it never manages to load all of them.
I'm guessing it's a page timeout problem, caused by Dropbox being too slow...

It was the "Hover Racer" project page - seems to be working again now though.
EDIT: Spoke too soon - getting more missing images again...

Perhaps it's a browser issue. I know when I use opera, images won't show up a lot of times, regardless if they are able to load or not.

They're loading for me Sketchy. O_o
Nick! One of those fine services seems to be working for you, but I'd recommend picking up a free account at some webhost like http://webs.com just to give it a try. A direct link like nickpeoples.webs.com/file.exe is a lot prettier (not to mention easier to work with) than a string of gobbledegook for a service like dropbox or skydrive.
Though I guess if you've got it working, there's no need!

It's intermittent, and not a browser issue - possibly depends on traffic or something.
Anyway, use whatever you like, as long as it's not imageshack, which I hate with a passion.
