Hey all, as Aku's post has established it is summer/winter holidays, and i've got plenty of spare time on my hands, so what better to do than work on a game.
The thing is, why reinvent the wheel, when it's already been made, just make it better...in other words, why start a new game, when you've got some many others you can work on. And what better peoples oppinions to hear than the creators and critics themselves!
I've got a few canidates, so i'll show you them and you can tell me what you think. Although my dodgy Geocities bandwidth will probably die in a number of minutes.
First of all i'll just list some games i've already posted here and are thinking about going on with...
Pretty basic platformer I made for a comp a while back...nothing special, but I could get on with it, fix up a few little gameplay issues and it could go alright. It'd be pretty motivated to make a game about a guy with a mullet for sure!
Pretty much DDR you play with your fingers without the music, just random so you can really test your finger speed. I could pretty easily finish this and add some features, like the ability to make it run and make moves to mp3's of your own choosing and stuff like that.
This was suppose to be my pride and joy game! But once I converted it into MMF it stuffed up on me so I gave up...and it was starting to shape up really nicely too...much better than those dodgy screenshots But i have the time to resurect it and stuff now, so yeah...if you've played a demo tell us what you think of the concept of having heaps of weapons and violence.
This game I put alot of thought into.
Basically it's a remake of a game of the same name I started many years ago in TGF, but lost it in a hard disk crash, but the remakes even better.
You play part of a member of satanic cult, who practice the Black arts and have lots of crazy riturals...and just as you as you take the last step to being a Hell Spawn and gain powers of the underworld your master is shot dead by a military forces when he is taken off guard performing the ritual to turn you.
This means you soul is now owned by the devil, but you cannot posess demonic powers, and to make matters worse the military are after you and all of your masters students.
It leads of from there, having the avoid getting killed by the military, and getting your soul back before the next full moon, otherwise you will join your soul in Hell because you are not a full Hell Spawn.
The action is split into 10 military style weapons, and is mixed with 20 demonic powers that increase in power as your character increases in power once you gain the ability to learn these powers. It gets pretty crazy, and i've pretty much done all of the weapons and power...all that is left is to do some finish touches to the engine and get on with making the actual game.
This game is absolutely so far fetched and complex, i'd be lucky to finish it in two lifetimes.
Pretty basic idea behind it. Based around to being a new recruit to an established 'Suburb', where there youngens have formed gangs, 4 in total, and the idea is they fight each other just for the fun of it, or over issues of respect or dignity.
The twist is that the gang you join has some serious power in it...some very advanced technology, that an unknown force seems to be keen to get their hands on...but only a couple members you gang know anything about. And the story of the game is that the gang actvities in this suburb are getting disturbed by this very powerful outside force, or gang, in effect. And what is a game to these youngens turns to something far more sinister when 3 members of a rival gang to one that you are part of are shot dead defending their turf and not giving up information about the secrets that you gang has.
This is why a Local Allience is formed to defend all local gangs in the suburb, to find out who this unknown gang and to put a stop to them once and for all!
The game itself is the complex bit. Well over 100 different weapons and gadjets that work amongst themselves, so many of which can be modified, used in different ways or different ammo can be used. Ranging from sticks and stones and sling shot to paintball guns up to sub machine guns and wierd crap that kids shouldn't have their hands on!
The system is not easy to work out as it is, but the shear scale and number of combinations will means thousands of events and hours to get the engine working fully!
This is my newest attempt at a game, I don't plan to make anything too big out of it. Basically like GTA, but more relevant to me and more realistic, in some aspects anyway.
I'm going to basically make a game that is located in my suburb...that's right! So I can go over to my mates house or whatever. And i'm going to try and throw in a multiplayer so me and my mates can go nuts in places we know so well!
Kinda a bit personal, but I don't plan to have 100 weapons or anything, just lots of graphics and lots of madness in the form of driving around somewhere so familiar.
I might throw in a story or something, but as of yet it's just a GTA type of game where the only thing that will take time is the graphics, not the engine!
So there ya go...a few little previews you may want to suggest I got on with and finish...Or you can tell me to make another game...or you can tell me to go stuffed and go back to the pub...either way, i'm interested to hear you input and for you to waste my geocities bandwidth!
