Although i have been a member of "Ther Daily Click" for a year now (even more) i just find that games are no fun anymore.
In the past there was mixes of good games, newbie games and average games. Now it is basiclly good game after good game after good game.
We all like great games like Eternnal Daughter but we need a mix of all sort of games good and bad.
This is because people have learned (like me for example) since they first joined.
Are good games coming out of hand?
Well, I don't know - I find that I don't really care that much about most commercial games any more (with the exception of Soul Calibur II, of course). Remember when Commander Keen was the best thing ever?
I've no doubt that we'll soon get another Butterfly 660, or something. Yes, I know that not everyone's a fan of it, but it's one of the best I've played - decent storyline, impressive programming, what more do you want?
I don't think lots of good games is a bad thing, surely it's more fun. But for me who isn't that good it does put me down to see the skillfull stuff people churn out that is way better than my games. But I get over it.
I also think its a shame how klik groups have to try and go all professional on us all. I'm guilty myself of that cardinal sin, and yes, it seems klik games aren't as fun as they used to be.
When I first joined the community, Gunner 3 was about to be released, and when I downloaded it I thought it was amazing. Ever since then it seems that everyones been trying to match the professionalism of that game. Even Eternal Daughter. I have to conclude though that the most fun klik game Ive played in the last year is probably Astrospoon, and..well Im getting off topic a bit I guess. But yes, the quality is waning.
"Now it is basiclly good game after good game after good game."
Actually, I think most game on the Daily Click are still really bad. More good games are getting released than before, but most of them are still pretty bad. Why are you saying that you want more bad games? That makes no sense to me at all.......
99 percent chance that the above post is 100 percent correct.
well i think we should all spend longer Test our games befor adding them to the downloads section

well... there still is a lot of crap on this site. i think that a decent game, like Butterfly 660 (brilliant game) or Entrance Gate, will pop up soon enough, and raise the bar a little higher. i still enjoy playing some of the games here. it's just the extra special ones are few and far between, which is a good thing, because it keeps us all in suspense.
Pulling two names off the top of my head (no idea who stuck them there), I'd say that Spram and Ashman are two of the most consistently good game authors on the site.
i dont try to make my games fun to play but if a game is not professional as well it is sadly overlooked by most.
i had fun with skelletor which i played yesterday but dont play many games from the dc.
mabye we are all spoilt for choice?
I just played a bit of that new game Furballs by Spram, it's great fun! I hardly ever play many games these days, but this was great. Reminded me very much of the Commander Keen games, Keen 4 more than anything. Recommend you give that try if you can spare the download time.

Picture it like this: There's alot of leaves on a tree and some are good and some are bad and crappyly brown (unless you like them) and TDC picks a few leaves at random every week. Then you get some good leaves some ok leaves and occasianlay the amazing leaf that is really shiny and green.
Does that settle things? Anyway, i know there are alot of great engines or half finished games. Many people don't finish them because they are too lazy or they don't find them fun anymore because they have been working on them for so long. BUT, they are still fun to every1 else. So it takes time for someone to actually be bothered to finish a game here at TDC. Give it time and maybe the creators of good games a bit of a inspiration push.
Don't want to start another flame war, but what's so good about eternal daughter? and entrance gate? i've had more fun with other freeware games from gamehippo or something

An old account of mine, recently cleared out. It's a blast to the past, the age was marked as 14 when I found it. If you know where to look, you can track me. Au revoir.

Click games today are trying WAY to hard to be proffesional like Eternal daughter and all those other great games. I think its time we realised that proffesionalism doesnt count for nuthin if the games more boring than canned tuna.
Im not sayin ED is boring but there are other click games that I'd much rather play because thay are so much more fun.
Click was designed so those among us who cant program for shit could make games. Now why bother spending months making a 2d Dues Ex or Half-Life when you can make a good fun 8dir shooter in afew days.
Let me put this topic straight, its not the fact that games are too good, or too bad, its the fact that every click game made is the same old thing: a platformer, which is getting really tiresome and boring. What we need is an awesome RPG or Gta clone that will bring a refreshing wave of inspiration to this community!
Now stop with the whole: ooh I'll make a platformer or breakout clone or fangame, and start making QUALITY - once in a liftime games for us all to enjoy!
There is nothing wrong with platform games at all. I think people are fed up because many platform games are the same thing with no original ideas. When I played the Fishhead 4 engine test, it was so good because no-one had ever done something like it before.
It's nothing wrong with having more and more good games...it just means that the klik community is growing and its standard has risen.

Back in the old days of Silky's you could do terrible games and they'd still be adored. No one cared how professional it was, as long as it was a new game and fun
Back then you could have a circle jumping over some squares as a game (no attacks) and just having to dodge things and everyone would love it
im thinking the opposite to jon.
Click games arent meant to be like GTA or all those sick Black Isle RPG's. Those games are to complicated and we dont have the time. Its better to make a fun platformer than a downright boring RPG.
But I do agree that platformers are starting to piss all of us off. Its not that they are platformers. Its just that they are the same boring shiezen.
So go Fishhead 4 and Stargem!
I dont get it, I personally dont think click games are getting worse. Just this year we got the excellent Streambolt, which might as well be one of the best Click game ever.
We also got Super Ken Senshi or something, which was very very good, even tho I've never played it with other people on-line. And I'd rather play a shooter with RPG-like elements than another well-made superficial twitch game. (Not dissing SKS, but the whole shooter genre).
For original games, we had "The Line Continues", which even tho is a vib-ribbon style game, is still pretty awesome and original by click standards.
Douglas Circumstance was great, if it was easier and had more level it would make me explode in orgasmic fury. The Spirit Engine is pretty good even tho it's too linear for an RPG.
And dont forget the "Lost Valley", that game, at least to me, was exceptionally awesome. It might be a little repetitive and long but it rocked so hard and was so big and epic it wasn't funny. The entire game had a "I cant believe this was done in Multimedia Fusion by one guy" feeling.
And that's what you guys are missing: The "I cant believe this was done in MMF by one or two guys" feeling Eternal Daughter, Gunner 3 and Entrance Gate (even tho I dont like it much) had.
Me? I dont care since I dont really care about the coding and care about the gameplay, atmosphere and fun factor.
Dotn forget that Mr. Stumps Dentures and Mina of the Pirates are comming soon, plus who knows what. If I had the time, I'd make a Hyper Quadrant sequel.
It is very common to loose interest in something after a while. Lets face it ... Klik'n'Play was released in 1995 or so. Thats 8 years ago.
When we discover something new and thrilling its exciting just beacuse its new. After a while that feeling fades away and should hopefully be replaced by interest. If things get a bit repetitive its common to loose some interest. A pause awakens the interest.
About the quality, I think its almost the same as always. Allthough some things may be a bit more advanced with plugins/online play and stuff, the overall quality is about the same. There are still newbie games (as there should be, that means the community grows), and there are the more "professional" games.
But maybe the "professionalism" has gone some people a bit too much to the head. Graphical standard has risen. And maybe that has removed focuss a bit too much from other things like fun. A game is not automatically good just because it is drawn nice. I think we may need to focuss more on gameplay and the fun factor. And then think new. A game redone 100 times looses quality.
Whatever the current state of Click games, we can't give up on them, because we have the potential that no proffessional games creators in the world can do: whatever the hell we want! We can make games about cheese sandwhiches if we want to, which is why we have to use this freedom to do something better. Maybe the standard is high at the moment, but I for one am not dismayed by the challenge. Sure, I can't do the visuals that some of you can, with your fancy pre-rendered graphics, but so what? Spend time on your games, give them decent stories or a character all of their own, and then hopefully we'll all be happy. I've not been disappointed by a single download from TDC, but instead where I've seen weaknesses, I've been compelled to do better myself. Wow, that's a long reply. I need to rest my fingers.
Why the hell am I on the computer at 1 in the morning? No, don't answer.
