Before I start I would just like to bring to your attention that my fellow team mate JD was banned from TDC for apparently saying and I quote "cant you get anything right you fucking retard" JD maintains his innocence and says that it is just a lie made up by shadow and I Believe him.
Obviously I know this post won't be around long or will have a nice little administrive message bolted onto the bottom as soon as I press 'post thread' but id like to think that shadow had more guts than that and would reply (hey stranger things have happend).

well, i have maintained before that you don't actually have any claims to free speech here, but that's beside the point. as you can see if you read my post on KM, i thought that shadow is probably in the wrong here and in other places as well, but anyway, it's his site so his decision goes.
let's hope shadow made a copy of the "evidence" like he is supposed to (and tells us to do).
I don't know what to say about this any more, so I won't comment either way - though this won't get locked unless Shadow decides on it.
However, why the "free speech" argument again? I really don't think it applies here - free speech works up to a point, but there are some things that shouldn't be said. More appropriate would be the possiblity of unfair discimination against certain members...
As I said, I can't say whether it was unfair or not. We'll have to wait for that.
You know, I'm pretty sure that that comment that Shadow deleted and blamed on JD was one I made. I wrote telling him that once again he was a failure. The word "retard" never came up though, but my post from that thread DID get deleted. Shadow just exagerates too much.
Personally I don't understand why so many people dislike ShadowCaster...

Well... those people who post within this thread that they don't see why people dislike SC most certainly didn't read or realize what's going on and what's the problem. I'll sum it up for them: ShadowCaster is the admin here. Not only an admin like the others but the admin. Okay. An admin (and especially the admin) has a lot of power and should use it wisely (after all, he exercises all legislative, judicative and executives powers). As long as an admin does this, there shouldn't be a problem - but if he starts punishing those who criticise him and ignoring the misbehaviour of people he likes, it gets a problem. I don't know what's really going on, but it seems as if exactly this is what has happened here when people like Ashman can do whatever they want on this page but people like JD get banned / deleted for other people's posts (haha, not even their own). Of course - as long as you have no contact to SC, he won't know that you're there, but if at some point you disagree with him and have your posts deleted because of that, you'll see how annoying that can be and probably leave this site sooner or later. And if an admin makes people leave a community, it's a problem.
Uh, did anyone actually like JD? To be truthful about it, all he did was make negative posts all the time. He was just extremely rude and negative all the time and I really don't mind him being banned.

I found him quite amusing, but yes he was generally negative and not really helpful. I still don't think he should've been banned, although he is a liar. Transcript of thread pre-delete:
- A user posts an error message
- ShadowCaster replied to this (something like "Okay, I'll try to get it fixed")
- JD posts same error message
- ShadowCaster tells us the error is fixed and says that JD shouldn't post the error message but post the relevant information (THIS WAS EXACTLY THE SAME THING - doesn't he check his posts?)
- JD says 'I already gave you the info, you fucking retard' (I remember this distinctly, though I remember the 'cant you get anything right' quote came from a news comment - also remembered distinctly)
- ShadowCaster posts 'A WINNER IS YOU!' and deletes JD - Paul posts afterwards and Shad asks if he wants JD's submitted stuff
Anyway, JD may claim his innocence, but calling ShadowCaster 'a fucking liar' is 'fucking' hypocritical. I'm a witness to this, and the only way that JD could be innocent is if someone else copied his name and avatar - but surprise, surprise, I see no message, and if someone else posted that the message would still be there.
Before HES declare jihad on me, I'll say that it's good that you stick up for him. Just realise that he's lying to save face.
ShadowCaster: I think it's about time you started saving logs.
I always miss this stuff, always catch the tail-end. I think it was extreme to instantly ban JD, even if that was what he actually said. I mean, people such as Ashman frequently say much worse. Just thought I'd give my opinions before the inevitable lockage of this topic.
Alright, losers, here's the thing: a lot of you want to talk about what's right and wrong, and what so-and-so should or shouldn't have done. All that is irrelevant.
The bottom line is that the admins run the show here and everyone else is just a peon. If they like you, you can do what you want. If they don't, they can ban you, delete your messages, whatever they want. There's no Bill of Rights on this site, or any other that I'm aware of. What gives them the right? The simple fact that you'll keep coming here no matter what they do, because you don't have anything better to do with your time. If you want to go around telling people what you think is right and wrong, try going somewhere where somebody gives a rat's ass what you think. Otherwise, zip it, because obviously no one cares what you think or will ever change their mind because of it.
Think I'm wrong? Well, maybe you should just go ahead and prove me 100% correct by sticking around here and taking the time to tell me why, as if the capacity for giving a damn could possibly exist in me or anyone else around here.
Actually you're incorrect when it comes to Ashman, Defenestrator. Talked with an admin about this stuff a couple months ago through PMs and still have the message to quote from. A key thing mentioned at the end of the chat, however, was that people let themselves become irked by Ashman, and in the end he's only joking around and trying to have a good time.

My point was that the people who run a site can do what they like. People act like the admins have to treat everyone a certain way. They don't. They can do whatever they like, because it's their site. If you don't like it, there's not too much you can do about it, except from either putting up with it or going away.
@defenestrator: Sorry, but you're wrong. If this site belonged to SC only you maybe could have a point, but it's not like that.
A whole bunch of people have worked on the site. As far as I know, Chris Davis started coding the whole thing while Andi Smith and Clubsoft continued and finished the job. TDC was originally started and run by Rikus Kras and as time went by, there was more than a dozen admins who helped keeping the site updated and alive. This site does not belong to SC, just like America does not belong to Bush, Germany does not belong to Schröder and France does not belong to Chirac. He might be the big guy here, but he has to stick to the rules just like everybody else.
I think the problem in DC is that people are either Deleted or Not Deleted. I think instead of permanent deletion (except in extreme circumstances), people should have a suspension of 3-15 days depending on the offence.
This would help newbies get to grips with our standards. And perhaps while joining, they get send the rules and regulations in the email. That would help a lot of people find out the boundries to this Board. And what is classed as 'spamming' or 'insulting'.
As far as I remember, there wasn't anything on this website saying that freedom of speech (and other rights) didn't apply here... in fact, no rules to be found. Are there any rules? Hmm - I feel a bit of anarchy coming on. (i.e. I'm just going to do what I normally do)

Jannis: Germany, France and America are all democracies. DC has no constitution and no "laws". Nor does it have a system of government. So the comparisons you draw are flawed, because the big guy here _is_ the big guy. He does not need a majority vote to make a change, in fact, he hasn't even been elected in. I've always found JD's rude comments worse than Ashman's. Ashman is funny, and that is why my next maze version will have "Ashman Rulez" spray-painted all over it.
ShadowCaster is as good an admin of TDC as I am an op in #K&p. Har har. For the most part I don't touch community sites with a ten-foot-pole, and haven't in the eight years I've been in the IRC community. It's this kind of crap that reinforces that for me.

So I guess he deserved it, though I'd feel better about it if SC unbanned some people after a few months or so. I mean guys like Dave_C didn't really deserve to be banned.
As for that whole government thing, I'd say the DC is a monarchy. True, it was made and refurnished by a whole bunch of people, but right now, SC is the king. And like all kings, he's got the right to choose who his advisors are, if he wants to fire 'em, and who gets beheaded. The other coders like Clubsoft are just um... military generals, they can shoot whoever they want, but SC can just shoot them in the back any time he wants and they can't do a thing about it.
BTW, I've noticed that most of the community would be on a more fascist government system. You know, the whole "everyone on TDC is a loser/idiot/moron/fag" thing and all. So much for calling SC a nazi.

Freedom of speech is a privelage in my opinion. Because even though you can say whatever, your reputation isnt guarenteed to stay the same.
