Hiya! This is a weird question so dont make fun of me or anything if so its not like im gonna cry and kill myself or something, ill probably just laugh...ha. Ok, sorry about that, anyways, i wanna know how to make myself motivated and stay motivated, be it creating games or school work or whatnot. Because whenever i make a game, even if i say ill finish it, i dont. I just stop working on it for reasons such as: i reached a minor or major problem in making the game, i dont have any more ideas for the game, or i just dont care anymore. If i were motivated and not EXTREMELY LAZY, then i would get A's and B's in school and i would be quite a good game creator. I mean, i have plenty of unfinished games, some just rip-offs of other games that i made cuz i was bored... I just need help motivating myself...any ideas? Please dont post idiot worthless responses about how dumb this question is... Im serious, this is a big problem in my life...not just making games, but schoolwork, and everything else that requires un-laziness and motivation. Thx to all if anyone responds!

Put up posters in your room saying "You can do it!" on them.

It may work.

Or you could try what I do and force yourself to be motivated.

Give someone 35p, and tell them to buy a mars bar. Tell them to give it to you when the game is done. Assuming you like mars bars, you'll have motivation

First of all, try not to ask for serious advice at The Daily Click, because almost everyone here is either a moron or an asshole, and most are both.

As far as motivation goes, I find that listening to music helps a lot. I don't know if it just occupies the half of my brain that isn't busy trying to make something or what, but I'm definitely more productive that way.

Generally, motivation's a little more elusive. Try to make a lot of plans, both long and short-term. Decide early what you want to do in life, and find out what it will take to accomplish it. Be realistic. Also, when working on something, like games, set very secific short-term goals. Instead of saying, "I think I'll work on my game today," plan on working on a specifc part of your game, like a particular enemy's graphics, or adding a specific feature. Makes lists of things that need to be fixed as you notice them. What all this does is change the creative process into a series of small accomplishments rather than a seemingly endless mass of unrewarding work with now distinct end in sight.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

So... what am I? (Dang, guess that makes me a moron)

To give some advice to the initial post in this thread, here's what motivates me-

1. I listen to my favorite fast paced music. This gives me ideas for awesome killer battle fight scene things!

2. I also watch lots of hardcore anime, yeah! Lots of awesome stuff that gets my blood flowing in those!

3. I play some games. Yeah, that's what usually motivates us in the first place, right?

But when it comes to getting a thinking block on what to put in next, the best way to get through it, or to avoid it, is to form a list of what you want to do in the game, complete with a story skit, feature list, and etc.

And make sure you let your friends know what's on your mind. Friends are a great source of motivation.

a potentially good response from the audience is a great motivation... for me at least.
