This weeks winner of the GOTW award is -NZR- with his game Dux Duck. Unfortunately the screenshots arent working so I cant
make a spiffy GOTW Award image for it just yet... -NZR- if your reading this, please fix the screenshots :)
Next week's GOTW will feature:
Seek & Dread Online V 1.00,
Minder,
Cockroach Survivors!,
Hyper Quadrant,
The Shima Bros,
Jam &
Star Wars Fleet Commander -Clone Wars-
There was a lot of good games sent in this week, so check them out and dont forget to vote!
I have a couple of things to mention this week, but firstly, thanks to Eric for this weeks poll. I
had quite a lot of people message me last week when I asked for suggestions (most of them came from Shen :) and I'd like to
thank everyone for their help. I'll put up a new poll every week from the ideas you all gave me.
I've had quite a few people tell me one thing or another about the GOTW page... Usually that I've
forgotton to update it, or that each page is only supposed to have 10 games on it and the current page has about 50 instead.
Well, I've not automated the GOTW page so you no longer have to wait for me to update it, nor will you have to wait for 50
images to load if you only want to see the first couple.
I've had a good idea for a competition... Tell me what you think and I'll get started on
organising it if you think it's a good idea. What it will involve is a keyword which you must incorporate into your game, based
on how you interpret the word. For example, if the keyword is "rock" you will receive more points for your incorporation of the
word if your game is based on a rock band, than you would if your game simply had rocks in it. I've got a couple of good words
in mind that are open to interpretation (thanks to TomH and Darkstar also for helping me come up with words :) ... so would you
all be interested?
The admins have been receiving a lot of requests from people to place their games on the front page. Let
me just reiterate that games will be automatically placed on the main page by the admin that accepts the game from the
pending list, provided your game has screenshots, and a lengthy description explaining what the game is about. If your game has
screenshots, and you believe it has a good description, and it isnt placed on the main page, then email one of the admins about
it. Do not send them a DC mail before your game has been accepted/rejected from the pending list, and do not send a DC
mail if your game does not satisfy the above criteria. Also, CHECK YOUR DC MAIL! A lot of people seem to be complaining when
their game is rejected, and complain either by DC mail or in the forums. When an admin rejects a game, they will send you a DC
mail explaining WHY as well as how to fix whatever the problem was.
Another point is that, do not submit previews just to get DC points. If your going to send in a preview,
make sure it has SCREENSHOTS and make sure it has a lengthy description. If anyone submits a preview which doesnt have
screenshots or a lengthy description, it will be removed and you will lose double the DC points you gained for submitting the
preview in the first place.
Important: Well, all of these messages are important, but this one moreso than the others... I've
been receiving a lot of emails from someone claiming to be a visitor from DC asking me to try out a game they've made, but the
game contains a virus. Then recently I had someone attempt to ping flood me. I'm not the most hacked user in the
community for no reason, but a warning for everyone is: if you dont have a virus scanner, get one; if you dont have a
firewall, get one; and if you use your DC password for other things, change it. If you have Windows XP, then you already have a
firewall. To turn it on, right-click your connection and select Properties. Go to the Advanced section, and turn on the
firewall option.
Finally my email address hasnt been working the last couple of weeks (and it still isnt working
properly) so if you have sent me an email in this time, and havent received a reply, could you please forward your message to
shadowcaster@netspace.net.au, and please direct all emails there in the
future. Thanks.
~Mike
