It's been said before several times, but it doesn't hurt to help to refresh your memories now and again about the running of TDC. TDC Etiquette, if you will.
Firstly, when submitting a preview or download, please try to ensure that the description of the said article is length and well written, in coherent English. Perhaps include a plotline to start off with, and then add general information about the game. Screenshots are strongly advised too - especially if you want your game to content for GOTW or front page status. Which brings me neatly to the next point.
Please don't ask the administrators if they can put a game on the front page. It's simply not plausible to have every single game there. The way we work is that we generally pick applications with a good description and screenshots for front page status. And, all front page games are nearly always guarenteed to be in the GOTW listings as well. Sometimes we may genuinely miss a game but in the end our decision is final, regarding front page and GOTW content.
Regarding link submissions: Give it a better description than "My webpage". Tell us what it's about. Also, submit only your own sites if possible, and keep things relevant to game making, be it music, sprites, engines or games. Having a link to eBay, for instance, is kind of stupid - and yes, before you ask, if my recollection is correct we have had an eBay link before.
So, there you go. This isn't a ranting and raving newspost; more a refresher course on how we'd like TDC to work. Of course, this does tie in very well with a lot of recent submissions with lacking descriptions - but it's always best to be reminded now and again.
