Wierd, I started remaking Choplifter two days ago, and then this happens.

Unfortunately, the theme is probably going to be keeping me out of this compo.

I think I might enter this one. Great prizes and a cool theme. Sounds like fun to me. Just hope I can find the time to make something worthy of winning.

Breakout games are off limit though Daymian T, just so you know.

I'm definetly entering. Already starting on Balloon Fight XP.

Yeah Brandon, thanks for clearing that up for me.
(If you wanna Flame my game, or me, do it on the 'Spliffy' post, mmkay?)
I'm thinking Contra, Spatterhouse,Wrecking Crew, something else, haven't decided yet.

Someone should try and do a Blaster Master remake, only have it so you don't have to win it all in one shot, and the parts where Jason is out of the tank easier.

Wow, what a huge prize list too!

Well, I don't have any classic sorta games, so making a remake of one might be a bit difficult, but with prizes like that i'd be hitting myself with a stick if I didn't at least try.

You would actually make a game, Keaton? Wow. High prizes work miracles. I'll look forward to see your game. I hope you put as much work into it as your in your apps.

It sounds cool. But what is "remake"?

Posted by Del Duio 5th June, 2006

A remake is basically a fan game, so you'd most likely use ripped graphics and music- things generally frowned upon here at TDC- and twist them into your own conception of a new game.

Take an established game's characters and etc, and put them in a brand-new adventure. I wish somebody would do a Legacy of the Wizard remake, but that'd take way longer than the 3 months they give you, plus I'm not sure it'd work in MMF anyway.

A remake is not a fangame. A fangame takes characters from a popular game and makes an entirely new game from them. A remake is an attempt to remake a game as closely as possible to the original. Sometimes they have extra levels or features, but the aim is to get as close to the feel of the original as possible on modern machines.

Posted by Bibin 6th June, 2006

... Which would also mean you can rip the graphics and perhaps enhance them.

Posted by Radix 6th June, 2006

Yeah, you can enhance the graphics. Depends what you're going for, a faithful remake or an 'improved' one.

Take an established game's characters and etc, and put them in a brand-new adventure.
That is explicitly against the rules.

Ugh, I embarrass myself you are correct. I need to get my definitions straight before I post!
