Another week, another Game of the Week! And this week it's not really a game but an engine showing the capabilities of MMF2's hardware acceleration which won with 31 votes. Congratulations to Joshtek for winning though! So this week I present to you the choices for GOTW number 251.
I'm still unsure whether or not to include The Flame Object. As great as it is, it's really just an engine and people weren't too keen in having MMF Hardware Acceleration in last week either. Still discussing this and you can put your thoughts down here while it's still early.
And although it's rather strange, I included 'TDC's Second Vertically Continuous Image!' because it somewhat portrays an application. And also I believe the last one was a candidate, correct me if I'm wrong.
This really shouldn't have won, or been entered into, the GOTW poll. People are so pumped up over hardware acceleration that they'd vote for anything demonstrating it.
If I (or anyone else) had created something demonstrating Java runtime, no matter how rubbish the actual program was, the very fact that it demonstrates how efficient the runtime is would probably guarentee a GOTW win.
This is a cheap victory if I'm being honest, let it never happen again.
With all respect, you really need to re-define the rules and use some common sense while doing it. HWA-demonstration won the GOTW, an MMF2-extension was first included in the poll and then it's even unclear whether a superb game like Forgotten Riddles should be there. HWA is not a game, an extension is not a game, Forgotten Riddles is a game. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out which one of these three should actually be added to the poll and which ones should be excluded.
HWA shouldn't have won, since the GOTW should focus on the best games and applications for every week. This so that newbies have a lot of pretty good games to choose from in the GOTW section.
They see this, they probably think "wtf", but okay... Anyway, this is not going to be such a hot demo in a few months.
I would say that the GOTW should be changed to DOTw (Download of the week).
This way applications made with MMF2 will be able to compete too.
Also I believe that only stuff made with MMF2 should be in the poll, therefore Flame Object disqualifies for the poll (It was made FOR MMF2 and not WITH MMF2). HWA demo still should be in the poll.
