Well we have arrived to the sunday. GOTW day! Today you will be able to vote for allll the games that were submitted this past week, including the mini games! Vote well because including my final score i will be looking at what you guys think for the mini comp! That might just make someone bump from second into first place! Anyway here are the games!
This is just great. Even though they are not any big projects or the highest quality games this site has seen, I'm sure many of them are fun to play and importantly even more fun to create. Very successful competition and it really shows that the community can be very active when it's just pushed a bit first.
Added the missing games urban
Fanother: Check the news at the bottom as per why gotw is not working yet. I agree this comp was a huge success, i started to review all of the games this weekend (i'm up to 10 reviews now) and I have to say the quality of what i played so far overall is pretty darn good and fun! Its gonna be hard picking a winner!
My worry is that nobody will actually play any of these games, regardless of quality, unless they're made by somebody with a lot of reputation on the forums.
That's a valid concern 3kliksphilip. In the future, I see some great potential in Java-based mini/arcade-games on this site, which can also attract casual gamers to play and visit the site on regular basis. "Download, extract zip, launch exe" is too much whereas one click to play is easy enough, and Java will make it possible.
MJK unfortunately 3kliksphilip is right. People mostly look not on quality of the game but author nickname and it is hard for new ones unless admins place info about their game at front page.
There are a few I've yet to play, but giving them all a blast is fair. Some may not look great on the surface but they're actually quite fun and deserve a chance.
Yeah I agree. I remember seeing a post asking which game to vote for GOTW.
Really, that just makes this site look stupid. I can't think of a good way to explain it, but when people are voting for GOTW simply for the sake of voting- instead of for the quality of the games- it's just wrong. I some times think that the images of the game on the download page affect people's votes and ratings more than the quality of the games themselves.
Funny... I thought the GOTW was only ever supposed to actually have good games added to it and the only reason we ever had every game added to it was because we never had enough games to make a complete list.
At least that's how it always used to be. It was always a big deal to even get your game in the list, much less win... by how times have changed.
Nope it should have always been that all non demo games submitted in that week are added to the gotw, its not a pick or choose. Btw still having issues getting the games added hopefully this will be fixed before tomorrow.
"...says the person who didn't download any of them"
"...Or the person who didn't make any of them."
And just what does that have to do with it? It's an observation. We aren't going to die because these piddly voting messups happen. It's alright to acknowledge it as a problem, but I don't remember the last time I logged onto TDC without being barraged with complaints about how TDC is made to look stupid or how life is unfair because of the way GOTW's are voted or how everyone argues too much.
In fact, all this hullabaloo over every little detail seems to be more what makes TDC unnattractive. What does it serve in the long run but to give us all headaches when we could be making and playing games, because we argue and micromanage instead?
Oh yeesh now I'm doing it. See how dumb it is? Just... ENJOY yourselves. Comment edited by OldManClayton on 2/9/2009
Well i reviewed 15 games so far, some very, very fun games in there, some of them should deserve some more downloads as i think they are being overlooked.
Why not make two seperate polls?
One for all mini game compo entries, and one for the usual uploads. I think this would be more fair for the minigame compo entries, given the restricted time frame they had to be developed in. And additionally solve the code problem.
3kliksphilip : "My worry is that nobody will actually play any of these games, regardless of quality, unless they're made by somebody with a lot of reputation on the forums."
You're right IMO. But you can't ask someone to play 20 games before voting. How long would it take?
So people will only play the games made by a creator they know, and they will only vote for them.
And it works the same way with 70mb games.
It's a little finnicky to pick on everyone for not downloading every single stinking game like that all the time. It's logical to download games from people you know make good games, and then pick a couple from someone you don't know so well. If you happen upon a gem, you comment about it and people download it.
OMC : Yeah, but in the competition, the most played games (= the games made by the most "famous" creators) will have a little advantage, no matter the gameplay
Fortunately, Rikus will (and only him will ) play and review all games
Oh, there's no doubt that a judge should play them all and ignore who made them. I was just speaking of those who cannot or do not want to download and play all of them.
