OINC 1.0 Internet Controller released
News posted 3rd July, 2009 by Rob Rule
Aquadasoft's networking library OINC 1.0 was released today for both Multimedia Fusion 2 and The Games Factory 2 (the latter using a cut down version of the extension). Intended as the replacement to the MooGame/Mooclick extensions, OINC boasts greater power and allows communication between MMF2, C++ and Python, with work on both Visual Basic and Flash compatability currently underway. There's never been a better time for klikers to give their games online functionality!

From OINC's info page: OINC is a networking library- that is, an interface available to programmers to let applications communicate with each other, across a network or over the internet. It is currently in alpha stage. It supports raw TCP and UDP sockets, as well as its own protocol built over TCP and UDP. This allows you to create networked applications quickly and simply, without dabbling in Winsock or complicated socket libraries.

This is probably the best thing to happen to MMF/TGF, and hopefully it will become more apparent as time goes on...

Well more and more Click games have an online mode, and that's awesome! the only problem is that the servers are kinda rare. Uhm... I guess I should invest in a dedicated server

I think the main problem is getting the traffic/volume of people interested in playing your game. For example, ACE looks like a really fun game but in relation to other games, not many people know about it and hence there are rarely people online to play it with.

A dedicated server would definitely help

I've been thinking about cooking up a little online game and using an old screenless laptop as a "dedicated" server.

Potatocakes to goodness knows I've already got enough to do already though.

1.0 and its only out of alpha? in beta now? 1.0 is supposed to be final product, with minor bug fixes, major patches during its lifecycle. eh whatever. i think ill start using this now. already have a dedicated server. although its never on. nothing to host. and too much electricity to run .

This is high quality work! MMF online games are going to be faster now. ^^

Hmm, I wonder when the WOOF extension will be out...
