Project Update?
News posted 13th January, 2010 by OMC
Konjak recently posted an update on his website about an old project of his called Mina of the Pirates that was abandoned in favor of Noitu Love.

"'Sup? Thought I'd share a video of Mina of the Pirates I made several years ago (both this video and the game itself was worked on several years ago). [...] I went back to this game recently and it is NOT very good. Every area drags on with the same types of "puzzles". But it's still the longest game I ever made. The trailer was made before the Forest, Mountain and Snow areas, which were all completed, except Snow."

Included is a link to an old trailer, but the most exciting part is this:

"Maybe I'll get an EXE for people to play sometime, if I can get it to work. I've had issues with trying to do that before."

Thanks to Nim for the heads up!

He's come quite far since then, but the green jungle boss still looks awesome.

Very awesome.

Oh my, an EXE would be wonderful

Nice, I recall we all wanted the abandoned version of this.

Joakim if you're still having problems compiling a decent .exe together I still have a copy of the game from the Klik-Me days. It goes as far as that large autumnal forest is, with the harvesty creepy music.

Just seen his Legend Of Princess game, I've never heard of that before! Looks great and very similar in style to Bernies games.

I made this game.

The trailer never impressed me from the start. People mainly jock it because its graphics were "Ahead of its time." for click games. Its hard to tell from a trailer whether the gameplay is flawed or not, but the click community tends to lean towards graphics over gameplay (whether you guys want to believe it or not). I figured the game wasn't going to be as great as it was hyped up to be, and Konjak even says so himself now.

Don't take this the wrong way though, I'm definitely not downing Konjak at all. He is an extremely talented artist and the amount of work he puts into projects definitely shows. I am actually very envious of him as he creates his own music, sounds(im assuming, graphics, and codes his stuff all by himself.

I didn't care for noitu love 1 either (i actually thought it was a very, very boring game), but Part 2 is just overall an extremely well polished game. His music is awesome, his coding expertise shows along with the gameplay mechanics, and his graphical capabilities are definitely out of this world.

Let me put it to you - Mina is a fantastic game.

Looked mediocre(or slightly below) (Gameplay wise)and now even the creator stated that it isn't great.

I think I'll stick with my opinion of it until the exe is released.

"Looked mediocre(or slightly below) (Gameplay wise)and now even the creator stated that it isn't great."

Ha ha, a talented artist is often humble about his/her own creations, so don't take his word for it!

Also, I can't really get what you base your verdict on - "mediocre(or slightly below)". I'd really like to hear your opinion about the games here at TDC, "tis' gonna be a slash-fest!".

Konjak, heres a rule of thumb for the click community. don't ever trash your projects just because someone said something preferable about your game. From what I can see, this is a solid game! and definitely looks like you took A LOT of care when developing it. So, please be nice and release it for everyone to experience. Your amazingly creative. Though, you just hafta know that there will always be some bad seeded people out there telling you that your game isn't to their preference. Remember when you started this project, that it's a game YOU wanted to play. So let them simmer in their own aura of jealously and get bad karma. MUAHAHAHAHAH CLICK ON MY FELLOW FRIENDS... CLICK ON!!!! DON't LET ANYONE STOP YOU FROM CREATING YOUR DREAMS!!! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER

Yeah, not sure what Gamester is on about; if I had made a game as good as Mina then I would call it my magnum opus and could retire from the gaming community a happy man.

Jason Andrew, stickin' it to the man!

From the look of your Project: Eden game GamesterXIII, your graphic style and quality doesn't look particularly different to Minas from where I sit.

I'd bet any money if most of the members of this community felt they could make graphics as least as good as Mina they'd be very happy. I know I certainly would be.

But regardless I guess your opinion is your opinion.

He didn't say there was anything wrong with the graphics.

"(Gameplay wise)"

Why do people always confuse graphics with gameplay? If he says the gameplay was boring, you can't argue that it looks good

I hope you don't use that argument in your daily life... "hey, your girlfriend is a cheating whore, spends all your money and does nothing but talk on the phone all day!" - "yeah, but she looks good!"... well, actually never mind

Actually I would be quite happy if I could make graphics at least as good as the ones Mina has. I did the graphics in the old eden engine (jason andrew did the character). The bird was ripped from zelda as a placeholder.

I am actually VERY inconsistent with graphics and I can NOT animate at all. If I tried to make graphics right now they would probably be about 1/100th of the quality of the ones in the eden engine. I make something nice once in a blue moon :<. If my life depended on it then . . . I would die.

I really just honestly have a very high standard for gameplay. Mina is a great looking game graphically, but the gameplay shown in the video doesn't do much for me (though some of the engine mechanics that Konjak has improved even further in his newest creations are pretty awesome.)

Like I said before - no offense intended. I just believe that the general standards for gameplay are a bit low . . .compared to mine of course ;p.

You have a higly interesting view on what consists good gameplay.

Posted by Dustin Gunn 16th January, 2010

I fail to see how the trailer shows any gameplay at all. The actual game is a metroid-type affair and if it has any flaws it's that some areas go on for far too long. You, of course, cannot see that in the trailer.

Posted by GamesterXIII 16th January, 2010

You can see bits of gameplay in the trailer.

I do agree with you that it is quite limited though, which is why I said "I think I'll stick with my opinion of it until the exe is released. " =]

I checked it right as I posted that comment so it had to have been released after that.

I'll check it out as soon as I get a computer with sound (which may be a month!)
