New Construct 2 public preview available!
News posted 5th February, 2011 by Rikus
Well folks here we go! The Construct Public Beta has just been made available for everyone to download! While there are lots of changes, the bigest change I can mention is that Construct 2 now exports to html5! Check out the link below to download the beta yourself.

And before the comments explode, please try and stay respectful to your fellow game creators out there. While this is not a clickteam product it is still a tool that is used by a lot of people to create games. And that is what we are here for right? To have fun and create games.

Click here to go to the Construct 2 beta download page!!!!

HTML5? That's pretty cool.

Posted by Silveraura 5th February, 2011

Thank God they got rid of that ribbon interface. That was a train wreck.

Posted by alastair john jack 5th February, 2011

It's pretty similar to the last ribbon, just it comes minimized as default now.

Posted by Liquixcat 5th February, 2011

It has a lot of work and a lot of potential left.

Posted by Tiles 5th February, 2011

Haha, the german Clickzone got removed from the Clickteam link list because we decided to post about other toolkits too. Wonder what happens to The Daily Click now

Posted by Liquixcat 5th February, 2011

Nothing, TDC is part of clickteam's success, if they were to shun TDC they'd only be hurting themselves...

Edit: Competition drives sales btw...

This news post has pre-emptive judgemental negative waves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuStsFW4EmQ

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? WOOF!

Anyway I will be checking out Construct 2, cheers for the info!

Interesting stuff !

Tiles, TDC has posted news on other toolkits several times in the past, and we are very much aware of that. If clickzone.de was removed from the list, it's probably because it does not offer enough value to people looking for MMF-related resources.

Posted by Tiles 5th February, 2011

Who knows. The value is still huge though. You can still find years of experience in the boards, and lots of tutorials and articles and example files. Even a few very experienced lost souls are still around. So the reason must have been our move to open up for all platforms.

But i don`t want to hijack this thread here. I find it great that TDC is not just focused to MMF. I found it just curious that The Daily Click posts about a non Clickteam product that is disliked by Clickteam because of my personal experience what can happen then

There is also HTML5 exporter for MMF2 under works it was presented at this years Click Convention.

Posted by Johnny Look 5th February, 2011

Is it going to cost 70$ more too ?

Posted by Jenswa 5th February, 2011

Go html 5

Posted by Jon Lambert 5th February, 2011

Not saying they won't charge for an html5 exporter, but the reason they charge for flash is because of mp3 liscensing fees, if i remember correctly.

Posted by Johnny Look 5th February, 2011

As far as I know mp3 is not a closed proprietary format so who would they pay those "licensing fees" to and why ? Sounds like a pretty lame excuse to me.

Posted by Duncan 5th February, 2011

Sounds like a pretty lame_enc.dll excuse to me...

Posted by Fanotherpg 6th February, 2011

Some of the encoders (at leat this one with Flash) are licenced. That's one thing, other thing is that they are working hard and you would like to be paid for your work.

HTML5 was under works by Jamie, like Python by Mathias.

It would make more sense to me having clickteam pay a programmer or two to make these exporters and then release them for free, included with a new mmf2 update. Everyone would be happier I think. The programmers would be paid, clickteam would have a better product and all their customers could use the new features without being slapped with a 70$ price tag in the face.
If they are thinking about going for the same approach for the html5 exporter then I have the feeling it won't go very well given that construct is doing the same but for free.
But oh well that's their product, they can do whatever they want with it. I want be spending any more of my hard earned money on them, that's for sure.

"While this is not a clickteam product it is still a tool that is used by a lot of people to create games."

construct > click products

click products are a blast from the past as in: 1994 called- they want their code back.

Oh dear.

>It would make more sense to me having clickteam pay a programmer or two

I remember a statement where somebody said that Clickteam was not this happy with professional programmers in the past. That`s why they prefer hobby programmer

Posted by Johnny Look 6th February, 2011

Aren't they programmers themselves ? They could do it by themselves and save a few bucks.

Posted by Jeff Vance 6th February, 2011

When do hobby programmers turn into professional programmers?

Is it when they work full-time for an hourly wage or a salary?

Then Check -- we now have all professional programmers working on MMF2 exports and version 3.

Posted by Tiles 6th February, 2011

True. And i can see the benefit. Somebody that has grown with the userbase knows the background, and has grown with the product. While somebody from outside may need some extra time to fit in.

But you still search for hobbyists every now and then to do the professional jobs. Lots of extensions are still made with lots of good will instead knowledge. The result is all these buggy extensions that never really gets fixed. Or you search for hobbyists games and artwork, for trailers from their games. To make a trailer that shows how professional your product is. This makes me scratch my head, you know.

My point of view is, hire a professional to do professional work. But in the end it`s of course your decision

Posted by Ski 6th February, 2011

In the end this news post is about Construct, not a bitching thread for people to make swipes at Clickteam, which you started, Tiles.

Posted by Marko 6th February, 2011

I do like the fact that Construct is starting to look like a serious alternative to MMF2, IMO. Competition brings out the best in everyone, and this is good for game-makers in every way possible

Posted by ChrisB 6th February, 2011

+1 to Marko, though there is already plenty of competition for us to look at

FWIW I've been employed as a programmer elsewhere before I joined Clickteam. At that place there were programmers worse than most of the 'hobby programmers' you see here and in other communities. Now they're getting paid every month which makes them a 'professional', so where's the value in this distinction? BS with a little humour is still BS, you know. After all, a team of professionals gave us APB, one hobbyist gave us Minecraft.

I agree with the above post - QOTW? (Quote of the Week)

Posted by Tiles 7th February, 2011

Adam, when i really would want to make swipes at Clickteam then this thread would look a bit different here.

I can see though that my second post reads at the moment like i would start to piss against all Clickteam developers. This is not my intention. All i wanted to point out is that the current strategy to hire the "professionals" in the user base has more than one flaw. Name me an extension and i name you a bug. Well, it`s not this bad fortunately, and in general the developers of Clickteam does a good job. But have a look at extensions like ForEach, Clickteam Movement Controller or Character Image to know what i mean.

Chris, how many MMF-minecrafts do exist compared to all the thousands of professional and profitable titles that are really at a professional level with professional state of the art graphics? Just a thought
