Every Friday I will take you back on a trip into the past. Today's old news post was all about a game called Chaos Gate that was being created by Ben Berntsen who now works for gameloft. The trailer that Ben released blew everyone away because of how well the game looked and how it was designed. This was going to be best game of the year 2005! It was unfortunate that the game never got a release but we will never forget that amazing trailer...
This was never the original version, there was a far more cutesy and less serious version which in some ways was better than this gothic follow-up. I loved it.
oh just FUCK OFF using songs you dont have any rights to use for your trailers. no really im not blaming you. finding good music you are FREE to use is very hard especially because there is a lot of crap out there. it's just a crying shame i can NOT watch it because it is BLOCKED in Germany because of copyright issues with this video (the song). basically that goes for any youtube video with copyright protected music. so yeh I cant watch it wa wa wa :C
but i have fond memories of it. looked like a SNES rpg done by square back in the day when RPGs were still cool.
so ben is working for gameloft now? wow. im curious to know what exactly is he doing? graphics or programming? they are the BIGGEST cell phone game company and make a shitload of games (which are mostly rip offs of famous titles slightly altered but who cares since their games are a lot of fun Comment edited by Rikus on 9/30/2011
I can be very gullible... for a moment, I thought Ben had submitted it to the DC and I felt something in my stomach.
I played the beta of this more recent version and the older version Circy talks about; I also liked the older version better. It was also half-done, so I never understood why he decided to start it again from scratch. I'm glad to hear he's doing well.
Looks like a solid combination of Zelda II and Castlevania. I'm happy to hear he's moved on to bigger and better things...And that he's most likely making good money in the games biz.
I liked how the cutesy version looked, too. I want both. I want them ALL. Chaos Gate got me interested in sidescrolling RPG/adventures, which led me to try Ys 3 and get into the Ys series. Thanks Ben!
This is one case where if I had stuck with it and did the best Chaos Gate rip-off I could, I actually wouldn't be compared against the actual game.
I would love to give this a play, finished or not. Does anyone know how to get in contact with Ben? Even as it is, there is a LOT to learn from studying the work that was put into this.
