A small game which seems to be getting some high praise is Mercenary, a sniping game set in World War 2. Matt K explains:

"Mercenary is a 2D sniping game. The game involves you playing as a resitstance sharp shooter in WW2. Starting in Poland, your job is to hold off the German advance, by killing soldiers at key locations."
