One of the things I really want to achieve with this game is to create something that people will want to keep playing and finish. Maybe even complete multiple times. I have thought a lot about what have made me not want to stop playing a game which of course has led to many different conclusions. But the one I keep coming back to is that games that give me a strong sense of progression are the ones that really manage to keep me hooked.
For example: I have never really been all that into multiplayer shooters, at least not for longer periods of time. However I never seem to get tired of Call of Duty 4. Mainly because of it being a great game, of course, but the fact that it keeps track of every imaginable statistic, rewards me with better weapons for playing well and constantly gives me feedback on my progress makes me feel like I am actually achieving something.
So yeah. CoD4 is actually the main inspiration that made me want to include an RPG-system in this game. I am currently thinking about different ways of rewarding the player other than the obvious method of increasing you attack and defence. Any suggestion or thoughts on the subject is much appreciated
