When you create a game by yourself there is always the dilemma of how to balance the pretty vs. substantial. If you are not a great artist it is extremely time consuming to make almost anything look pretty, and if one thing looks very good, all of it has to look very good.
It's a tough balancing act then, to make your game look as good as possible without making it too demanding to create enough assets for a complete game. I think it is very important to choose a visual style that you are comfortable with drawing.
Im not completely satisfied with how this game looks at the moment and I plan to fix that. However, I know that if I want to achieve everything I plan to do in the gameplay department some visuall sacrifices will have to be made. It's always hard to make those choices as everyone want their game to look as good as possible, right? If anything I have become very good at designing my games graphicly undemanding with a strong focus on features and gameplay. And who cares about some crude pixels if the game looks fair and plays awesome?
