Well, I think I've got the particle effects sorted. I was going to replace the shiny one with a more blobby-looking one, but it was plum awful. I spent the afternoon wrangling with a frustrating bug in one of the particle systems, but it seems to work well. I added a few more effects to the rainbow splotch explosion (the rainbow splotch itself has been shinified) and added some particles to the brownsplosion. There are some included screenies of them.
Now, my worries... One, that most people who run the game will get extreme slowdown. I'm going to need a few beta testers with varying computer specs to try it with and without HWA. Also, my second worry is that it might look a bit too busy... the screenshot definitely does. Next up, the level editing system!
EDIT: I'm going to post another video soon, because the screenshots hardly do the particle effects justice. They really do look shiny.
EDIT EDIT: Hmmm, well apparently my screen recorder doesn't like HWA's Direct3D 9 display option. Looks like a preview is out of the question for the time being, but I'll try to figure something out later.
