Just a quick update here so that you don't think the project is dead. I've had to take inventory of the code and plan overhauls to various bits as the AI takes shape.
Coding the AI is the most challenging part of this project, as it has to interact with sounds as well as sights of the player, the player's traps (possibly) and communicate between each other. Each AI has various states of alert. The plan is to use a combination of advanced path movement, coded AI zones, and search patterns to model the behavior.
