It's still not been abandoned!
One of the upcoming briefs for my course involves matte painting, something I knew little about before researching. And it is pretty brilliant, which impanted thought seeds about building the game in a higher resolution (well, native 640x480) using the same sprites, but with Photoshop background objects instead. Still not entirely sure on it since it would mean rebuilding the engine in HWA which I'm not prepared to do yet. But then it runs the risk of breaking out of the Amiga style I was aiming for... and would add more dev time to it all. So maybe no?
BREAK THE STREAMING CONSCIOUS
Also finishing up work on our next couple of projects. Hadal is like 99% done and Tempests core engine is built.
See thats the problem of leaving a project alone for a while, too many conflicting ideas come creeping in D:. Just wish I had more friggin time or could just add a couple more hours into the day. Yea.
Just build haddal in hwa with photoshop backgrounds then and see how you like it. And another thing, Tormshire had an amiga style? Where pray tell? Speaking of the other two games, any screenshots or video you would like to share? Cause clearly, we know next to nothing about them. Unless your updating them on the website that is. Thanks for the update though.
Nice painting!
It's not entirely strict but I was trying to keep it within the Amiga OCS standards and resolution (but cheekily with an extended palette).
Hadal's already done and the style of Tempest is already down. I wasn't really planning to preview either of them until they were both finished... but then Hadal went and became a much bigger and fleshed out project than I planned . Might have to put something up on my site then.
You should! Cause who knows what this mystery project contains! (Other then it's based on the tormi engine is all we got.) Btw, did you ever release "Leaf" anywhere? And is it in a playable state?
I think basing your decision on whether or not it will meet some random specs is silly. >_> Photoshop backgrounds might be really cool and awesome, but then the sprites themselves might seem out of place, and then there's all that extra work you mentioned.
Sample! Make one mini-frame with a photoshop background.
I can only repead what beamsplashX said. The game looks awesome but much more feels so fucking great to play. And I īve only seen videos!! And in my opinion grafix are nice, but gamplay is the most important thing and i swear to god, i know!!! your game will kickass in gameplay!
How can you judge gameplay on a trailer? Trailers say nothing about actual gameplay. The same happens to movies. I've seen TONS of awesome trailers, but the actual movies sucked balls.
I wish you would focus more on your main project, James. Tormi looks very intersting and didn't you say a major game company wants to publish Tormi? Depending on the screen of your planned map layout you have a LOT of work left on Tormi, so why sidetracking so much? Did you lose interest?
I was just about to have a nice relaxing pound of cocaine.
What it is was Lunnye was going to be a little mess around but it did quite well so I started up a couple more things. The break was needed, got so many things planned for Tormi now.
@ Its MORE than true that trailers say nothing. But there are many tormi ingame videos, which show a lot of the general mood and style of the game. It shows how everything moves or how enemies are beaten. I was talking bout those ingame vids. And they have such a potential!
I wish you would focus more on your main project, James.
I kind of agree with Blue here James. I remember when you thought Tormi would be done by this past spring.
But most importantly there are a LOT of people following the game, much more than the 75 favorites here. You have something that's pretty much guaranteed to make you thousands of dollars on your hands. Plus you've already shown that you have the skills to pull it off. AND you'll get great coverage from the bigger sites like TigSource so everybody will know about it when it comes out too.
I know taking on a side project is a good mental break from a bigger one. But bubba, HOW many projects do you have going that aren't Tormi now? 2? 3?
YOU CRAZY, MAN! Go and get your thousands of dollars!
Honestly I think the amount of time and effort it would take to rework it all wouldn't pay off. The graphics work well as they are. Save the artistic whims for a fresh subject!
Keep visuals. And please, please please focus on it more, lest I decide this not favorite worthy. I want to be able to p;lay it and I want you to get paid.
What are you people complaining about? James is probably working on it as much as he can muster, but big projects can't just be churned out. You need to focus on a million aspects when advancing the development, or else the quality and/or feel will get lost in the process. You need to be "in the zone" for these kinds of things. And James has obviously left the zone for a quick cup o'joe and will get back in there when he can.
With that said, keep the style! It's too beautiful to change, and it would be this-> ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <-much work to change it.
Definately keep the style. It's absolutely wonderful. I check this page like once a month just because of this game (and a bit for The Orphanage). Eccept for that i don't use tdc, but i really need to know when this game is comming out.
