I'm happy to introduce a new feature to Public Investigator:COTSM...Fishing! I had always had a fishing engine in mind, but never before was I able to execute it properly. I'm happy to finally make it! It plays a little bit differently then some of teh previous things we've seen.
Basically you select the fishing pole from you inventory-
Once it is equipped, you need to either be on a dock or in your boat and press Ctrl to cast out. Then you pretty much just watch your bobber.
It'll move up and down for a while until it finally goes underwater. Press Space to reel it in.
It'll pop up in your inventory afterwards.
It doesn't cost your character any energy to fish, but if you successfully reel in a fish, you'll lose 10 energy. You can either sell the fish at the general store, which buys fish for some reason, or I am planning on having a character have a fish fry every day between 4 and 7 pm where you can fry your fish into food.
Fishing won't be part of the story, but it'll just be another thing to do to pass the time. While the game has a story, I hope that the players forget about it and get lost in the world of Public Investigator.
So overall, for my first fishing engine, I would classify it as...
"Very nice!"
...I always wanted to do that
EDIT:
Also, Alligators have been added to Public Investigator! Now when your driving around in the swamp during the daytime you have to be more careful.
If you get hit by one of roaming gators you'll lose 20 energy. But if you hit a gator with your boat at almost full speed, you'll flip it over and it'll be unable to attack you for a little bit.
Little details like that make these kinds of games fun to play, just figuring out what can be done is a game in itself!
Also, do you plan on replacing those fonts eventually?
That's is prolly the only thing holding this game back graphically right now. I think it would look a lot better with bitmap fonts. They're are a couple of custom font objects you could use. Check em out!
Well, I've thought about it. But which fonts are you talking about in paticular? I was thinking of leaving the main arial fonts on speech and stuff, but I probably do need something cooler for the top of the inventory where it says "Detective "+Name+""
