This screenshot here is pretty much the latest visual thing I have to show. The 'Averagemon's there are placeholders. As for the battle perspective... well after days of pondering and sketching, I came to the conclusion that the Pokémon games just got this perfect, and nothing else would capture the same feel.
I have some very meaty parts of the game done. Creature stats are in, including leveling up stats. Move stats are in, and creatures are able to learn moves. I also have the Elemental Type Chart in. My 'Types' will be:
Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Flora, Fauna, Creep, Ice, Mineral, Cosmic
It's tough to deviate too much from Pokémon's types, but I feel I've given them enough of my own influence, and I'm very happy with them.
Right now I'm working on getting the Battle system in. So far battles can be initiated, and the basic battle menu is in place (you can select moves and stuff). Next step is to get the battle rounds going, so moves do damage and effects and all that awesome stuff. I've got it all planned - in fact I've done it before with a much more complex system - so I just need to implement it.
Simplicity is key here. My last attempt at a Pokémon style game was far too complex. After playing some original Blue, I've toned it down, and I think it will be a lot of fun
