I've deviated from my original to-do list lately, but as story components start coming together I decided to develop some additional features to the game. This is one of them.
At the start of the level, all scrap pickups will change from the default scrap pickup icon to a distinctive graphic with 7 different choices. This varies the particular pickup, although it's all valuable scrap.
When a player breaks open a crate, the scrap generated will also be randomly assigned to a particular type.
The variety includes:
- corrugated sheet metal
- scrap iron (looks like an old-skool radiator)
- copper pipes
- CRT televisions
- electrical wire (on a spool)
- old engines
- fuel
Later, these pieces of scrap will be used to achieve different mini-goals in the game as it continues.
The art I created will likely be just placeholder art, but I think I did a decent job with it.
