The latest build is dated 26 November 2012 on the title screen. There's a lot to report in terms of updates, but also found a pretty major issue.
THE GOOD NEWS:
- New title screen interface, with additional instruction screens, credits, and so on.
- Coded water levels, with some placeholder splash art when the player character jumps in. It's pretty basic, and I may adjust it later (as well as underwater x-axis movement) but it does what I need it to do for this go-round.
- added one more level to the game, which features the forementioned water elements in a small section if it.
- I chatted with an acquaintance of mine from my old hometown of Baltimore. Seems like he has a bunch of music tracks sitting in his basement hard drive or whatever, and wants to donate some to the project. I'm VERY happy about this; the guy has been making sci-fi films and industrial/experimental music for many years now, and the kind of sound he makes will fit nicely in the universe I'm envisioning.
THE NOT QUITE SO GOOD AS THE GOOD NEWS:
- for some stupid reason, the player character will sometimes slide to the left and right for no damn good reason. I'm still trying to track it down, but I just noticed it after finishing the title screen and having a play-through before releasing this latest build. I suppose I ought to fix that.
I added a number of screen shots in this build, mostly of the new instructional screens. Those of you who were lost when trying to play the game (or trying to read the previous instructions) may be helped by this newest iteration. I hope to add more hints and tool-tips for view while the game is being played; we'll see if they ever come about.
If you have a chance to play this build, please offer some feedback (especially since I am dealing with one potential show-stopper at this point). Thanks for reading!
