Some more solid progress on this game to report; the general information is as follows:
--basic title screen implemented
--basic controls outlined in-game
--damage meter for player; player can now be destroyed
--player returns to the start point when a life is lost, or to "Game Over" screen when no lives remain
--fixed levels of ammunition, stun spray, and player damage level
--background music (a MIDI file; you might recognize it)
--ammunition pick-ups; stun spray component pickups
--more sound effects
--new 'futuristic' cross-hair graphics
--if pushed out of the bounds of the map, the player loses a life
Still to do:
--status messages that pop up on the screen to tell the player what has just occurred (such as "convoy deployed" or "ammunition available" or "stun gas acquired" or "two convoys remain" and so on). I have a fairly solid idea on how I want to implement this.
--Smoke and/or visual damage effects on the player who has suffered a considerable amount of damage.
--End this level when three convoys have safely traveled from one side of the map to the other.
Now that the engine is pretty much done, I'm attempting to design other challenges that can fit in its framework. I'd like to do more than just this 'escort the convoy' business. I'm thinking of reconnaissance missions, obstacle courses, and so on. I'll find new ways to extend the playability of the game and fill out the four or five different stages I'm planning.
Several screenshots display the recent developments, new artwork, and so on.
