This is an easy tutorial for suckers still using the default platform engine.

When I first saw people using custom platform engines I was scared, I had no idea what to do. Don't worry if this is how you feel because this engine is fully grouped and commented to tell you what EACH event does, and more importantly WHY.

Comments are seperated into two groups "general"(white) and "specific"(black). This makes it easier to read and such.

As for the engine itself, it includes:

-Progressive gravity

-Horizontal acceleration (rather than just a set amount of movement (Andyuk's engine)

-Slopes

-Jumping (better jumping than that featured in Andyuk's)

-Debug

So download all you default n00bs. This can be re-used without my permission, and you can also use it as a starting point for more complicated engines!

Yay! I'm no longer a sucker! Thank you Damien.

That's ok Grazzum! Marvel: The idea for this is to teach people the principles of custom movemnent so that they can eventually create their own.

when I attempt to use any sprite of my own, I get this annoying Jerking effect. why is that?

Posted by Teapot 7th May, 2006

That's because it's the wrong size, just change the size of the detectors to the size of the sprite.
