Want to have an interface in your TGF adventure game that is hidden until needed? This tutorial explains how to do that (requires some knowledge of TGF). This tutorial needs no third-party TGF extensions, and should run with no problems in either CNC or MMF as well.

The controls of the inferface are similar to the verb-coin interface found in The Curse of Monkey Island. Click and hold the left mouse button over an object to bring up the interface. While still holding the mouse button, select the option you want and release (the options are triggered by releasing the mouse button over them; trying to click on them will cause the interface to dissapear as soon as you let go of the mouse button). Right clicking toggles the inventory window on and off (moving the mouse pointer off the window also closes it). Walking is just simply point and click.

The hidden.zip file contains:

-hidden.gam (a native TGF game file; requires TGF to open)
-tutorial.txt (a text file explaining the basic workings of the engine)

hmm... I got some sort of read error.

Btw you double posted the download, you can delete the other one from 'user admin'.

Actually, it is not a double post. This one is a hidden interface tutorial while the other is a scrolling tutorial.

I think Gayggggge is funnier.

i couldn't pick up items, double clicking, pressing enter, space, shift and ctrl (not at the same time)
would not work

please make it clear how to pick up items.

otherwise it look too comlicated for me, i would make it simpler if i could, maybe it has to be this complex?

Ok, I've added an update on the controls of the tutorial example. As far as the complexity, I could probably simplfy it some, but in the end, you need to have some familarity with TGF. I will be glad to answer any specific questions, though.

If you're referring to the controls of the tutorial (ie, how to pick up objects, etc), that was my fault, sorry. I overlooked that. However, I did update the description with that information. If you mean simply how it works (the actual events, etc), I tried to explain it in the txt file. Again, probably my fault for not being clear enough. I will have to try my best to clear it up more, and please ask if you have any specific questions or if you spot anything else that I missed.

can you even pick up items? if so, how?

Yes, you can pick up the items (you can't actually do anything with them; I mostly put them in there for demonstration of the interface & inventory).

Anyway, the way you pick up an item is you first move the mouse over the object, then click and hold the left mouse until the interface comes up. While still holding the mouse button, select the option you want(pick up, in this case) and release the button (the option is triggered by releasing the mouse button while the option is selected; if you let go of the mouse button to try to actually click on it, the interface dissapears). That help?

This is the same way the verb-coin interface of Curse of Monkey Island worked, and the interface for Full Throttle
