Vector X 2006 is a 3D wire-frame action game in 640*480 resolution, featuring narrow passage looking levels, static and moving enemies, "boss" structures you need to level down, 5 missions with a storyline, sound and music and polished presentation. Mouse and keyboard controls are available.

Vector X 2006 is a FreeBASIC port of a relatively unknown QBasic game entitled Vector X, made by Dan McFadyen in 2001.

Ummm... yes. At least I do.
Sorry

I'll give it a try, though.

This is hardly playable. Maybe it's just not my kind of game...

Its a really awsome lookin game but its almost impossibe to play, you can't really check your altitude compared to the mountains, and when you go through the canyon sort of parts all the enemies go there as well and trhey just run into you.

Wow... this is difficult!
Well, I managed to make it past level one, (after figuring out that I had to shoot the ground and not the enemies).
I think it would make the game better\easier (in my eyes) if you and your enemies were moving slower, maybe you could make them go faster at higher levels.

Gee. I'm a bit surprised with these comments. I actually found the game too slow on normal speed, thus I added two faster speeds. I also consider the game relatively easy.

Did you try to play the game with the keyboard?

I recommend you hold the fire button(space or enter; works even if you use the mouse controls for moving) and just fly. So easy.

Oh, yes. Press F when playing the game to turn on a FPS counter. If you get 20 FPS you are fine. If not, my game needs an update!

it only runs at 20 FPS? Wow, that's pretty low.

Anyway, I'll probably give this a try once I get home.

20 FPS? That's not a very good framerate.
This game played at 80 FPS for me.

This game was okay but there's no variaty in the enemy's AI, I mean, basically they just fly into your line of fire.

What are your computers specifications, Lachie? Because I got ~30 FPS in the slowest mode.

I just realized that the VSYNC statement I'm using in the main game loop doesn't the give the same framerate on every PC. At least in that resolution. Crap, I will have to make an update giving more flexibility to the user to set the game speed.

Meh it's short... but fun. I finnished once I figured out where the altitude meter was.

Technologically, from a click point of view, this is really something. I don't think the 3d view marrys up with the gameplay very well though, because it's often difficult to see if you are close to hitting the floor/enemies etc. even with the altitude meter.

Probably worthy of this weeks GOTY i think.

if you could add texture to the vectore frames so its easier to see whats what. i dont know if thats posible though. pretty neato =D

Posted by Cecilectomy 4th June, 2006

i take that back...this is amazing. and it ISNT that hard. it ran at 25-30 fps for me.

Posted by Cecilectomy 4th June, 2006

oh now that i see that it is in freebasic i know that it IS possible to fill in the structures and crafts. that would make it look even better and easier on the eyes.

Interesting. Like ben said, it's hard to see what you're hitting. I like it though. Maybe textured mountains and a shadow for your ship would help.

hmm, very nice game dude. I think this game ain't so impossible that everyone says. good work.
