Chronaccoon (36-hour competition entry)

This little game is my entry for Sephirenn's 36 hour competition with the theme of "Time".

It is a simple little platformer/puzzle game with an obscenely cute main character, the twist being that you can leap backwards in time and play alongside yourself of the past. I tried to employ a few things I'd never tried before, like several recorded character actions that'd play back simultaneously, and multiple instances of an object being able to collide off of one another.

The game rules are explained in-game.
It's not very long (and a little buggy), but hopefully it's got some interesting challenges for what it is.

I found a bug

At the third level when you press the red button that moves the trashcan so you cant reach the goal. I did that, then i pressed backspace to restart the level but the trashcan was still in the way... and pressing the red button did do anything this time.

Well, pressing backspace doesn't do anything with time, it just starts the level over in case you get stuck.
I don't know why the button would end up not working, though; that seems strange...

Nice entry. Music and sounds would be nice, but thumbs up.

This idea is absolute genius. When you get it, you REALLY get it. I agree with Greasy, although I'm sure it's nothing you don't know already - music and sounds would be great. I'm stuck on the "Burning Bridges" level. You absolutely have to make this into a full game.

Heh, thanks.
I know, it needs sounds/music... during the last hour I was trying to add some quickly, but my only sound resource happens to be the MMF sound library, and as I was rushing to find marginally appropriate stuff, some sorta bug crept up, and all of the different sounds would play only the jumping sound effect... So I decided to ditch the sounds entirely.

...And I'd love to expand on this game, if I can get the bugs out to the point or reliability.

MIDI music shouldn't be hard to find at all. I don't have any handy links for you at the moment, though.

As for sound effects, http://www.findsounds.com is pretty good for.. finding.. sounds.. ¬_¬

If you get some sound editing software like CoolEdit or Goldwave, you'll be able to tweak the sound effects or mix them with others.

I haven't played it yet but can your past self help the future self? That would create some depth.

Posted by Fifth 13th August, 2007

Yup, that's the idea.

Hey this is a really well made game. Very nice engine. Well done!

Very Cool! Did you ever play a game called "head over heals" on the spectrum, similar idea - but this kinda adds something new also

Thumbs up!

I really enjoyed this game. The thought gone into each puzzle is amazing. It reminds me a bit of the casual gaming competition going on at jayisgames.com.

Fun little game with nice, clean graphics.

Incredibly fun concept! Only mildly irritating standing on the spot and jumping constantly for the triple jump parts.

Fun concept,I liked it a lot.
Well made game.

Yarr, thanks guys!

I've never played "Head Over Heels", but I recall seeing something about it at one point...
And if you hold the jump button as you warp, your past self will continue to jump. It wasn't quite intentional, but it can be helpful.

Anyway, here's hoping I can get it working as a full game (and still keep it interesting). I've finally got all the collision stuff working fairly reliably, so it's on the right track.

I didn't comment? Hm.

This certainly was a nice change. Could use a good fullscreen mode though.

Oh, and findsounds.com completely sucks.
