This is a small Platform RPG. You can choose between multiple classes and do other RPG things.

Play as the King of a vast kingdom full of Rebels that want to slaughter you. Do you have the courage to obliterate your enemies? Play and find out!

Music was created by Johan Hargne (Wartagon)

It has influence from Final Fantasy, just in case you don't realise. Hopefully someone will enjoy this game.

AWSUM!

Posted by waffleton 21st October, 2007

Oh and I loved the music innit.

Posted by Fifth 21st October, 2007

Interesting...
I played through as a summoner, and there are a few things I would've liked...
- More variation in enemy actions. It got a little old attacking and hoping the enemy wouldn't turn around.
- Damage display, for both the player and the enemies. It was hard to tell how powerful things were, and I'd often be surprised at my own death.
- A little more variation/worth/balance for the higher summons. There wasn't much point in wasting all that magic for Bahamut if I could do about the same damage by using Shiva 3 or 4 times.

Anyway, it was a pretty cool game, nonetheless. Though it could stand to be a bit longer. I was very surprised when (and how easily) I killed the last boss.
I'll have to go through with a different class next time...

Oh, and any hints on how to get past the pillar?

LOOKS INCREDIBLE - DOWNLOADING

awesome game

next time use the talent you have to make something that isn't a fan game? the graphics are so cool too

Posted by DaVince 21st October, 2007

lol @ obvious FF spell names.
Looks nice, downloading.

Tiny platformers are all the rage now, aren't they?

Whoa! Looks like Ainevoltas 2... which I demanded -_-

Downloading! It looks incredible. Not TSE2 big mofo graphics incredible, but, charming. The sort of reason why I prefer Kirby games over Gears of War.

A 9 from Shroomlock has me excited.

Thumbs up... buuuut... please give it custom controls. And an option to further increase the screen size, in 4x I could sit back on my bed and play with a controller

Posted by DaVince 21st October, 2007

Tiny screen, please add window resizing/fullscreen options?
The controls were horrible, but quick enough to get used to.

Ummmm, so basically, I'm complaining about the same things as Dr. James.

Posted by DaVince 21st October, 2007

Also, just a little bit inspired by FF.

Posted by alastair john jack 21st October, 2007

Thanks for the comments peoples! Thanks for the suggestions as well.

"Oh, and any hints on how to get past the pillar?"
Its just to tease you.

I too was surprised that my Dragoon killed the final boss in about 5 hits. Damage counters would have been cool too like fifth said.

Doesn't the readme say something about custom controls? Maybe I'm delusional.

Posted by Wicked Studios 21st October, 2007

From what I've played it seems excellent, really reminds me of Ainevoltas (great game). I found a nasty 'glitch' I guess I would say. I flew the airship over the part your supposed to get up on but when I jumped off I accidentally landed off of the cliff, and now I can't get back up and my airship is still up there :/ Oh and if you go back to the rebel cave it still triggers the conversation with the necromancer guy or whatever you would call him, even after you've defeated him.

Posted by Fifth 21st October, 2007

The pillar's a tease? Ah man, really?
I played through with the "None" class (which was a great deal easier than the summoner class) in a blind attempt to get by it... ah, well.

I also found a couple bugs, one of which is that if you kill two enemies at the exact same time, you only get the gil and experience for one of them.

Oh, and don't worry about your airship. If you save and load, it'll be right there.

Posted by Jake G 21st October, 2007

Yaayness! I got to play it the the day BEFORE it was uploaded Did you know this guy didn't even send this game to his fellow silvernova staff members before he finished it!

Posted by Guru Rinpoche 21st October, 2007

Sort of wicked studio's comment, except I saved my game at the top of that hill (leaving my new air ship behind) and when I died and loaded my game, the air ship was gone. Poo.

hah i wish i knew about the airship respawning, i quit the game out of frustration and didnt realize it didnt save my game inside the winzip thing

Posted by Wicked Studios 22nd October, 2007

alright so i finished the game, playing through as a dragoon and in my opinion this is one of the better click games ive played in a while. it was much too short though! i deffinetely would have liked to see more done with this. and by the way how did you do your engine? its one of the best ive seen i do believe

Posted by alastair john jack 23rd October, 2007

thanks peoples.

"How long did it take to make this? "
It only took 3 months.

The reason it was short is because when I try to make bigger projects they tend to get abandoned, so I aimed for something I could finish. And I suck at stories.

Posted by jbjovi 23rd October, 2007

Really a good game but yes, too short. Hope you will add some more "levels".

You'll have to work with another member of SilverNova now alspal, so you'll finish a larger project too?

Posted by Del Duio 23rd October, 2007

Bah, my work has somehow disabled me from downloading this (as to I may play it later at home and on my own time of course).

Too bad because FF1 is one of my favorite games. Are the battles turn-based or in real-time?

Posted by Beau 23rd October, 2007

Man. It was a good game, but I was uber disappointed by how short it was. if it was like 20 times as big, it'd be the best click game ever

Posted by ..:.Phox.:.. 23rd October, 2007

awesomely done

great "little"(hehe) game

Posted by Lachie Dazdarian 25th October, 2007

I like the graphics and atmosphere. Not sure if the real-time battles are that good. Also, am I the only one who thinks that the placement of the rebel base entrance is a bit silly? I mean, it's 20 meters from the castle.

Still, thumbs up.

Posted by Beau 26th October, 2007

I would highly advise refining the spell system in the future to make them more beneficial. The summoner class especially--I mean, the most powerful summon doesn't kill most enemies in 1 hit and costs like 60mp. If they are primarily magic users than they should have a lot moe magic to compensate for that (like a lot more). Also, how the hell do you get past the pillar on the far left that "only heroes" can pass. I was level 50 and still not cool enough. I mean. I kill the boss in 2 hits :/

Posted by Del Duio 26th October, 2007

Very cool, this was a lot better than I thought it'd be. It was sort of annoying to always get the "PUSH DOWN TO INTERACT" message though. If people can't figure that out after the 10th time then they're in trouble anyhow. I chose the Red Mage. I really like how well everything is put together. I think if you were ever to do a really big game it'd kill but make the characters your own instead of Final Fantasy guys. You have the talent to make some awesome shit aspal!!

Thumbs up!

~ I love Final fantasy! n im sure in the early days (If Square made a side-on platformer) Square would of come up with somthing very similar to this!

Lol i agree wid every1 bout it being a lil' game tho, but im sure your gona come up with more gr8 kilks!

heh heh enemy base is extreamly close to the castle... but if it wasnt... well.. That would just be inconvenient.

Posted by AfterStar 26th October, 2007

Very nice game, good graphics and gameplay.
Only complain is that it's too short. You should make a bigger game out of it .

Posted by alastair john jack 27th October, 2007

thanks everyone!
Thanks also for the criticism, useful indeed.

Posted by AfterStar 27th October, 2007

There is a position where you can get extremely easy level-ups without getting in danger/harmed at all and you can get there pretty early.

Hint: Harpies,right-hand position.

Posted by thinlikenate 27th October, 2007

Do I have the high score?

Level 154 Fighter
Exp 950/2618

Strength-157
Vitality-156
Intellect-155
Defense-155
Gil-89625

HP 24056 MP MP 465

I've every weapon, spell, and armor except the crystal sword because the game won't let me purchase it, and over 200 of every other disposable item.

i wish there was more to do. haha

Posted by Dustin Gunn 31st October, 2007

I love the smoothness of the engine (And complete lack of transitions) even if I'm not a fan of the combat and lack of story, but for what it was this was very well-made.

Also what's the dude from The Underside doing there haha

Yes, I couldn't figure out what to do after getting the airship, so I just spent ALL my money on ethers, and just kept casting "blizaga" on the harpies on the right side, and respawning them. I went from level 8 to level 30 in about 5 minutes, and then figured I'd be strong enough to beat the boss on the right side and continue with the game as normal.

Then it said "The End"

This game was fantastic fun! I love games with tiny sprites!

The summoner was a silly class! I absolutely love having a large variety of attacks, but Chocobo was only 3mp and hit lots of enemies, so I would only ever use that, even in the Training Area near the pillar, and against the harpies and final boss.

The boss kept walking when I pressed enter, so I just waited for him to walk past me.

I loved the secret sewer area, it was a wonderful addition to the game! I wish it were a longer game with more areas!

1. WAY to short.
2. would of liked it if level up gave you full hp.
3. It went from balanced mobs to impossible mobs. (bad thing)
4. Would be nice with some crossfade for the music.

Anyways, if this was longer than 5 minutes you would of gotten 5 stars, now you only get 3.

The little scene when you die is awsome, how you pick life or death. Very creative. Reminds me sort of Ninja Gaiden or something.

By the way, did I sense some Cadash influence there? I thought I was the only one who remembered that one from the arcade.

Played it through with all classes. Levelled a fighter + none to level 100+ in a vain attempt to get past the pillar. Hates you now for realizing you can't. Great, great game!
MORE AND LONGER PLEASE!!!!

Super fun and addicting game, albeit short. I think I leveled too fast in the 'hero' zone tho because when I got back into town at level 40 or so it was time for the final boss and I didn't get any of the story other people are talking about. Also, I leveled my dragoon up to 61 and still couldn't get past that freakin' pillar 8/
