Unlike other people, I don't rate before I download. I'll play this one to a stopping point before I do that. Looks like its got GOTW material from the pics.

Well lets see. I don't feel up to a whole review, but to put it simply; The presentation and graphics are both easily a 5 out of 5. Blown away by all of that; excellent drawing and good cutscenes and such. However, its very bogged down by the rather pisspoor gameplay :/ The controls could use alot of work, and the game is far more frustrating then it is difficult; Enemies and level design are placed in many ways that create unfair scenarios of death that you can only avoid if you already knew it was coming (ie, you either died there already or were the game's designer). These are all very common things among many click games. There were still tons of bugs throughout the game, such as clipping walls and falling backwards through backdrops. Added to the well-sprited but not much fun boss fights, it really stopped me from getting much past the sunken ship levels.

Frankly, I'd say that if you took the time to create a platforming engine with much tighter controls- features such as variable jumping and proper collision detection, you'd have an easy 5 out of 5 game here, on par with the likes of Eternal Daughter and Noitu Love and such that could garner some serious attention. (not that Noitu Love was really great :/)

Overall excellent job on the presentation and graphics. The game had a professional look, but not a professional feel.

Pretty good. Gameplay was fun. The control was a little slippery and there were parts where it wasn't clear where to jump. Creative use of gimmicks. Graphics are simplistic but cohesive.

Attan done the soundtrack Adam.

also: "Being vindictive for no reason isn't very becoming" - I know Peblo, it's really not. There's a lot of stuff gone on behind the scenes here... but nevermind.

Since when does a game like this deserve TWO stars?

Phizzy gave Hasslevania 2 stars and I didn't agree with it, but you have to let people vote how they want to vote. If there's to be a star "floor value" then what's the point of making 0,1, or 2 star ratings even availble to select?

Oh yeah, that screenshot up there that Potatoe Ranger posted- I got stuck in that same wall somehow. Might be something worth looking into.

This is one of the best click platformers I've played in a long while! Well done! Theres lots of variety. Sure, it's a bit frustrating at points, but the best and most memorable classic platformers are very hard ie:ninja gaiden, contra series etc. Some might even call them unfairly hard. I like it tho! Nice work!

Yeah I enjoyed Hasslevania quite a bit but had to give it 3/5 because of the unobvious parts/difficulty/bugs/other turnoffs, but I think if you addressed all that it would be easy 4 or 5. Just like this game; if the controls and other game design elements were better, it would be easy 4 or 5.

i shall take this all into account if i make a sequel

and the great game!

Nice game. One thing that I wanna see in a sequel would be some check-points here and there. I die a lot in platformers.

very spiffy.
theres a glitch when you run up walls. if you turn at the last second you run up the wall on your head

well thanks for showing everyone -_-'
ive made an engine for the sequel that lacks all the glitches that have been mentioned... and there are checkpoints, thats what the checkered flags are!

Ah, the checkered flags are checkpoints? I didn't know!

Could use some more checkpoints, especially a bit before you die at unobvious spots.

I think 3/5 is a very respectable score for this game.
It's the same I gave Crystal Towers, which kinda has a similar vibe but was a lot tighter whereas this has a little more variation and a lot more forgiving difficulty. If the jumping wasn't so floaty, the bosses were a little more interesting and the level design a bit more coherent (some of these zipwires weren't necessary - see level 2 of snow world) it might have got a 4.
I don't think you can really compare this to Noitu Love and Eternal Daughter, that comment is a bit ridiculous. For a start they are all of different styles (this seems more based on Sonic Rush than anything else) and the presentation really isn't up to the same quality. It is coherent and works well together, but it isn't 'excellent'. And the boss battles would have a lot to live up to in comparison to those two games.
...and isn't that fourth screenshot a bit of a lie?

You shouldn't compare games to other games here, it's that simple. Compare the game to itself instead.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention before: the chicken necks look more like dog biscuits.

Well you should be able to compare the game with other clickgames since that's what the star system does isn't it? I mean if you enjoyed this game or thought it wasn't that good compared to another click game then this should have a rating equivalent to that. When I sort the games based on ratings I expect to get the best games selected by the community, not some rating based on what people expect the author to accomplish or how many bugs the game has.
Judging a game solely on itself means that even a newbie could get a 5/5 simply because he/she makes a game which manages to peak his/her knowledge and skills even though the game was pretty boring and so on. I'd rather give a person like that an honest score and leave a positive comment that it was good accomplishment and that there is room for improvement.

Well with that said, back to the game. I was not a big fan of the game at first (might be because I kinda suck at it ). It didn't really have anything which drew me in but I gave it a chance and it became more enjoyable after getting into it some more. I liked that the game was pretty fast paced but the constant jumping height kinda made it hard sometimes.
The graphics were ok and the music was good. I liked the work put into the cut scenes and I could see the game wasn't rushed which was good. I would give this game a 3.5 if I could but I'll give it a 3 since I thought 4 was a bit high. Even though this game wasn't my cup of tea I'm sure other people enjoyed it and it was a nice game overall, nice work!

Cute game, not very sophisticated in terms of gameplay but I enjoyed the level designs (especially having such high levels, not just going left to right).

I encountered a bug on the first level of the mines, there's a bit you climb a really high left wall and jump to a bar, when I jumped to the bar Jamie suddenly disappeared and I was more or less stuck at that point without a visible Jamie.

It's fairly decent. After a while I stopped caring about collecting those little bones and just ran through the levels. I mean I don't feel any reward for sticking around collecting items and killing bad guys.

I'm aware of your limited "newbie" status and so give it a 3/5, although if you were a veteran I'd easily give this a 1/5. Poor control mechanics as well as varied and thoughtless level design.

I enjoy it though, honest.

What's with the flurry of ego in this community? Why do all your opinions need to matter so much? I've seen this happen more than once around here.
If the first reaction that pops into your head after experiencing someones creation is negative commentary, pay more attention to what's going on upstairs! How are your own projects supposed to turn out with that garbage stinking up your mind?
You'll do what you like, I suppose, but where's the love guys? :3

Do you expect each of these comments to be a mini review?

It would be nice if everyone could take the negative with the positive.

Well, the community falls into about 3 archtypes when it comes to downloads. You've got the ones who vote down almost everything and spam the DL page, the ones who actually give contructive comments but don't normally vote high, and the ones who 5 star everything and offer very little in the way of helpful comments.

Out of interest, why do the controls feel a lot more slippery in the forest levels?

I don't like this game, the framerate seems to be about 20 fps with machine independent speed turned on (which I can't understand due to the graphical simplicity... are you running 10 000 loops per frame?), the controls are silly, and things don't always seem to work as they're supposed to. I stopped playing when I fell through two of those pipes in a row.
Oh, and the first time I ran it, it went fullscreen when I pressed enter while trying to work out the controls. Enter alone is not a good fullscreen shortcut. All my windows moved to my second monitor and resized themselves. Fun!

Uhh... Nice... Intro, though?

Can i play with the logitech precision?

Probably not, I was terrible at game making back in 2007 so I doubt I made it compatible with Joypads.
Jamie's Revenge 2 is though.
