Ghost Hunter is a simple technological demo of the MMF2 power. It uses shaders, particles, simple IA and uses a 360° shoot engine. The demo is presented in a RAR archive file where an EXE could be directly launched, a MFA to edit the project and the used shaders. This project is open-source and all the graphics in it could be used for your own projects.

Enjoy and please, post your comments.

Goal:
You are in the darkness and you must kill ghosts as much as possible.

Controls:
Arrows to move, mouse left click to shoot

Credits:
Idea/Programmation: Willay Clément (Eagle4)
Graphics: Leonardo Sedevcic
Help for shaders: Flavien Clermont (Sphax)

EDIT:
NOTE1: TO EDIT THE MFA, YOU MUST HAVE THE BUILD 248 (HWA Beta version)
NOTE2: TO PLAY, YOU MUST HAVE A GRAPHIC CARD WHICH SUPPORTS SHADERS 2.0
NOTE3: This is not an original idea, so take this open-source MMF2 HWA tech demo as a simple tech demo and not a complete original game

It crashed when I tried it in MMF2... and when I run the exe alone, all I get are big white spots.

My computer sucks though, so that's probably the problem.

It's nice for a demo of effects. I wish it were more of a game though. This would be fun with levels and bosses and such.

Neat, but my mouse button is going to break at this rate.

this also crashes in MMF for me as soon as you try to go to the event editor.

the crashing thing may be to do with updating to HWA?...or not?

I've edited the download page to add notes. This notes explain the possible crashes or EXE which has white holes in a black background.

very nice! the shaders look fantastic and the effect you get when colliding with the ghosts is great. i wouldnt even know where to start to get effects like these

I'll release a new version of my Pixel shaders pack with this effect (and a lot others ones).

I've presented a tech demo which was built by a Clicker who don't speak english. I've just helped for the shaders of this demo no more, no less.

But I like a lot this tech demo, and it runs pretty fine on my computer (portable one).

Another thing is that when someone create a Mario Clone, nobody will complain him for it. Take care to vote (if so) for the tech demo and not other things.

Either way, I'm happy now that Sphax has added a little note about it.

A little thought on the tech demo - I found it didn't run at all on my system after the title screen, which is odd as the Construct one does. It might be worth seeing if some of the effects can be rolled down to ps0.0.

Well it is just a tech demo, I probably did overreact. It's actually quite useful to have, since you can compare the two apps quite well using it.

Cool, haven´t really reflected over the HWA possibilities in MMF yet.
I got really interested in in your alpha-channel line-of-sight kinda thing with those white holes. How did you do that? The frame crashes when I'm trying to bring up the event editor. Only in that frame though.

It is open source folks! open it up and see how it was done, since it is a tech demo meant to educate, it is getting 5 start from me. If this was just meant as a demo it would be a different story. I do not know why people are getting so upset over this.

I also removed all of the comments that were on the topic mmf vs construct. This is not the place for it. That's all, i do not see any reason why our 2 communties can't help eachother and share our creativity. Instead of fighting lets work together.

The demo is not intended to be "original" but to be an open-source tech demo! Are you completely crazy to not understand that? I don't care a lot if it's a copy or not of another tech demo, this is not the subject of this download. And as I know this "wonderful original" tech demo of this other product is not open-source.

Also, I'll not say anything about PhysicDraw, this is not the subject here again. If you want to debate about it, post your comments in the right place...

Nice to hear how open-source demos are welcomed at TDC.

JARED: "Anyway back on topic, where do i find more info about making shaders/effects?"

I think there's some info in the CTForums about this, and Sphax or one of the other guys there will probs help you out. Look under the 'HWA beta' on the CTForums.

I agree with Leighton James. Wasn't there a topic created a few weeks ago about the misuse of the stars system?

This is pretty sweet for MMF, no slowdown. Thanks for making it open sourced too!

Why would you release a tech-demo without an FPS counter??

This effect is great for Luigi's manion-type games... I must play that again sometime >_<

Posted by Sphax 30th March, 2008

You can display FPS by pressing "ESC" during game if I remember correctly.

wow this a total ripoff of Construct Ghost Hunter demo (see the irony?).
It's a pretty nice example of what can be acheived with HWA though.
