Escape from Chantico Temple is an action platformer that draws inspiration from a variety of sources. The goal of the game is to reach the top of each level without getting hit by any of the many pitfalls along the way. To add to the mayhem, there is a pool of lava constantly rising beneath you, so you have to keep moving! There are 9 levels in all, each one is harder than the last.

The theme obviously draws heavy inspiration from Indiana Jones and other similar movies/games based in ancient temples filled with traps. I tried to make a platformer that is not boring and slow paced, and I think I achieved that... hopefully you're up for the challenge!

At first it seemed like a cute little platformer to enjoy when you have a little spare time, but after the first 3 seconds it was clear: this game doesn't fuck around!

The rising lava right in the beginning is just cruel. The player doesn't even have a chance to get used to the controls or anything! I can understand that the hardcore platformer guys here will enjoy this, but honestly why do most people not care about casual gamers anymore?

The long and not skippable death animation made it really frustrating after a while, so I gave up on Level 2, because I can only imagine this getting a major pain in the ass after even the first two levels are so damn hard.

btw I WAS PLAYING ON EASY! Why do you have an easy mode, when this is also meant to be hard? Anyway, the graphics are very pretty and I loved the animations of the hero.

I hope you will consider giving this game a VERY easy mode or maybe just a tutorial to get used to the jumping.

3 Stars because it looks ok, but for me it wasn't much fun to die over and over right from beginning.

haha I was unsure how people would handle the difficulty... but you gave up on level 2? lol i really didn't expect that. i thought at about level 6 onwards were tricky but not tooooo hard.

anyway, i should have mentioned this was for the 20 event compo, i completely agree the player deserves some time to get a handle on things before the lava should start rising, if i made it without restrictions i would have done that.

Game over at lvl 2 first try, then on lvl 6 the second. I would put make level 2 level 5 myself. Think its tougher than the other 3 levels. Pretty neat overall.

Fifth try - lvl 8. Its challenging indeed but also incredibly addictive. This type of game would be awesome on facebook heh. Really good level design and responsive controls.

Whoever downloads this give it a chance!

...I got to level 6 on my first try, on easy. I think the first 3 stages were really easy, I don't get what the other people are talking about. I kinda failed on level 6 then, though :|
It's a neat game. Like the graphics. It's kind of frustrating that you can't immediately retry after dying. Shorten the waiting time.

Very cool game, loved the whole indiana jones Rick Dangerous style. Dave, hope you dont mind that I added it to our server, the other server drove me nuties with the popups.

thanks for the positive comments guys, its good to know some people aren't afraid of a challenege

thanks for the server change and video rikus, and you can do whatever you like with the game for TDC arcade, i might even consider making a slightly updated version with a better scoring system/pause button/more polished gfx/sounds etc. the 20 event limit crushed a lot of my creative ideas during level design

I like the game concept alot, sort of an Indiana Jones meets Rick dangerous! The professionalism of the game engine and the graphics just ooz 5 star here! I'd one day hope to emulate your standards here Dave! 5 star!!!!!!!
