Super Retro Jim is the sequel to Retro Jim, which I made last year. I learned a lot by making this and enjoyed it too.

-Use the arrow keys to move
-Press SHIFT to jump
-Press CTRL to shoot
-There are 3 worlds each with 4 levels
-The 4th level in each world is a boss
-There is a specific weapon you use in each world

Great little title, and actually played pretty smooth! Keep on making games Jon! Ps. Really dug the music!

nice effort, heres some constructive criticism.

1) it seems like if ANY part of the player touches an enemy/diamond/door it counts as a collision, it's always better to have an invisible detector (a bit smaller than the player sprite) that takes the hits, because the way it is now you're actually more vulnerable when you have the shotgun just because it sticks out further

2) when walking against a wall the game can't decide whether it wants to play the stopped or walking animation, this is easy to fix and will improve the presentation.

3) the levels are very samey and uninspired, add some variety, create different types of levels, eg. some levels you're in a race against the clock, other levels you're being chased by some big baddie etc. instead of just walking at your own pace to collect a key and shooting some enemies over and over.

Solid, straight to the point platforming. Defo worth downloading

Other than the player character and enemies, the graphics don't really pull off the retro feel as well, especially on the title screen. I'm not sure what might have helped - perhaps removing the thin borders around the blocks and gemstones, sticking to a strict color palette, or using a more pixellated style for the score counter? I definitely do like how Jim looks, though.

The music, while not quite nailing the style of the sound effects, is still my favorite part about the game. It's suh-wheat.

Overall, I don't think I'd feel motivated to try it again once it's beaten, but for the first time around, definitely worth a go, if only for the hip tunes. :3

Thanks for all the comments! I'm surprised how well received the game was. Especially the music.

I really like this retro style game, it captures that essence games had back in the 80s
