at e3 that reggie guy said DS stands for Developer System. i think thats nintendos version, and the publics understanding is Dual Screen because we are so simple minded.
i want to wait to see what nintendos "revolution" console has to offer, if it has touch screens built into the controller, then i probably wont buy a DS. home systems are 100 x better than hand helds.
We should know the answers at E3. Chances are we'll see at least Microsoft and Nintendo release a ton of information about their next-gen systems. Sony might hold its cards until the fall TGS since the PS3 probably won't be out until 2006, while the Revolution and Xenon could be out as early as next Christmas. This is all based off pure speculation of course...
i love carts, got a 512mb one for my PocketPC and camera not too long about. 400 pictures which is nice. but meh. where am i going with this? i like carts *whistles*
It should be noted that the DS cartridges hold 1 gigabit, while the PSP discs hold 1.8 gigabytes. That's about 14 times as much space. Carts are going to be Nintendo's downfall once again unless they can come up with more innovative games than just porting over 10-year-old N64 launch titles.
Why will carts be their downfall? The PSP is supposed to be a kind of media hub; movies and music will be released on UMD, thus requiring a significant amount of space (and therefore discs). The draw of the DS is the new and innovative gameplay offered by the touchscreen and, to a lesser extent, the double-screens and microphone. You don't need big discs (physically and capacity-wise) to offer that, so nintendo chose a smaller medium. This also enhances battery life since there are no moving parts.
the PSP has support for Memory Stick Pro which i suppose is a sort of cart.
something i always say about all-in-one devices; if the battery goes there is no more music playing, games, or whatever your hub does. one down; all down. if my SP or DS battery dies at least i can then put on my Mp3 player. cant imagine it being a huge problem tho
Shab: Metroid Prime Hunter's Controls are pretty weird actually.. there are 5 different schemes to choose from (one that uses mainly the sylus and then two different schemes that are made both right and left handed) For some reason I prefer the 2nd Sceme set to Left Handed.. even though I'm right handed. The thing that pisses me off though is that the whole targetting system has been gutted... the entire control sceme feels like an original doom game. Problem is that the monsters are faster, smaller, and there are more of them.

Actually, Mario World 64 DS is more of a Wario Ware type game with the N64 game thrown in. I spend more time playing the fun touchscreen related games then i do playing the actual N64 game... though if I'd play the N64 game more I'd have more mini-games to choose from...
i think Sony will somehow manage to mess up the PSP. look at thier HD Mp3 player designed to rival to iPod. it flopped so majorly all because they wanted to use Atrac instead of MP3. you can use MP3 but it converts as you copy it onto the device, lowering the quality of your music. and it made it hellofalot slower too.
somethings gonna be propietry in there that ISNT gonna work well for it. im guessing the memory card idea. memory stick pro costs a bleedin fortune compared to SD and the likes. and im guessing because it uses a disc system; your gonna need a pro stick. that will turn away a lot of people i think...
hold up... so if i want to go out and about im gonna have to carry around a disc, a memory card and the console... AND a spare battery pack? portability sony... portability.
Well apart from that, Sony don't usually mess things up, in fact they usually innovate, not to mention their hardware is usually amongst the most reliable on the market.
I'm not swept up in all this portability shit anyway. I only got a Gameboy Advance for when I went camping in Cornwall a couple of years ago. Apart from that, I like to leave the gaming in the comfort of my home.
