Not sure if anyone noticed, but lately the standerds for winning a GOTW poll have gotten alot lower. Lately less quality games have been elected for GOTW, only because no other games were good enough to knock them down. Now this GOTW might be a change because of Jonny RPG & I'm not saying there is nothing we can do about the GOTW standerds slipping, but I can still remember when games would win because they were as high qualitly as ED or SKS. Lately more poor quality games are winning, only because they are the only games available. We came down to basicly a clone of an already existing arcade game last GOTW (no offence at all I hope), but its getting kind of annoying to go into the GOTW to try to find a quality game, when the entire time your going back 3-4 pages, just to get to the real quality games. Entrence Gate perhaps? For being the 5,647 person prolly to say this, we could change this if we just put a smitch more effort into games, or perhaps limmiting the true quality games to the gotw, even if they existed in previous gotw polls & lost. Other then that, the standerds for winning a gotw poll are getting alot lower. Who all agrees?
I agree Brandon. But that's why it is called "Game Of The Week" - it's the best game of that week. The games that won arn't exactly bad - but to put them as the same rank as Eternal Daughter and Sim Sheep and great classic Klik games - doesn't seem right.
But we can't exactly get everybody to make brilliant games - there isn't much we can do, and at the end of the day - its the users of TDC who chose the GOTW. Like I said, not much can be done.
There needs to be an annual vote for games in the GOTW, a simple "Should this game be removed from the GOTW page? Yes or No" Then all the remaining games would be the ones that actually deserved the award.

@Buster: That would be a kind of discrimination to newbies(mostly they put trash stuff). We all start from trash then go up to become a good game-maker.
Recently the admins made a half-hearted attempt to improve content and have only started adding games with screenshots, good hosts etc. to GOTW. This would explain why there are less games being added, but to me the quality seems to have stayed around the same. OK, you may get glitches of three or four weeks with nothing interesting, but it happens.
This thread smells strongly of typical "OMG WTF THE COMMUNITY IS DYING"-ism.

Just people can't be bothered with;
1)Taking screenshots
2)Writing a description
3)Getting a half decent host
4)Putting effort into the game
I try take screenshots, normally write a decent 'enough' description get a good host and most of the time put effort into the game/app... Because i'm a good boy
Most members get into the habit of doing that stuff eventually anyway, it's mainly just the noobs or hopeless retards that don't.
Anyway, I agree with all the people who made the point that the GOTW is the voted as the best game that week, just because it is an accolade shared by games of varying quality doesn't mean a crap GOTW and a good GOTW are considered in the same league. There were never any rules about quality concerning a GOTW nomination, only the criteria such as screenshots included, etc.
Totally agree with AsparagusTrevor, the GOTW is to honor those who followed the instruction and tried their best. Its the process that matters not the conclusion.
Well I dont believe the community is dieing now any more then it was a year ago. Its the DailyClick, its been up well sence before I came, & counting on how much history is already past us *cough* the time ShadowCaster got his name deleted & counted on backups to save him. *cough* I dont think that DC will be dieing now or any time soon, we have alot of n00bs, but we also have alot of people who actually know what they are doing, we just need to set the n00bs streight, & we'll be fine, & by that I dont mean be rude to them everytime they submit a stickman game. Anyway, I'm basicly saying that at 1 time we used to have great games firing at us left & right, now it just seems like people dont care anymore, they submit a game & get crashed, so they figure, why bother. Not true though, thats how I, & many other people here started out. I mean heck, I still have Pong Advance (I know its a spelling error) & Storm Master up, reading on how rude people were to be back then just makes me seem no better then the n00bs now, but look at me now, I've improved on not just being a n00b, but being on in style too. Anyway, No big deal, I was just in a mood to ramble about anything I saw when I made this topic.
Personally, I do believe games like eternal daughter and the like should be in a league of their own, but the GOTW portion of the site isn't where the complaint should be placed. There should be a "Gold Download" section if you will, where only games of a high enough quality would be posted. This way if you want to play an awesome game all you would have to do is go to the Gold Download section (not really an amazing idea for the title of the section, merely an example)
Just a thought.
Maybe demos could be added to the poll again. That'd maybe raise the quality a bit (because there have to be at least as many demos & finished games as there are finished games, obviously - that means that the quality has be at least as good as it'd be if there were only finished games...).
This has of course nothing to do with me releasing a demo soon!! Still, it's probably worth a thought imho.
Demos shouldnt be in the gotw only because they 90% of the time never get finished. Now games that arent freeware deserve a place in the GOTW though! Because its not right to keep the high quality games that are being sold down, & let the games that are sucky, but free, into the gotw, just because they are... well... free! I remember that with that Monkey Co. game.
You're right! Half Life 2 for game of the week! But seriously, it's not a fair democracy if it's not possible to play all canditates free. There is actually already a "top games" type thing that is completely independent of GOTW, the top 10. If I'm not mistaken, most of the top games mentioned above are in it. And ToTaL, not everyone can raise the bar. Ever read the "This isn't fun anymore" article? Games shouldn't have to be amazing to get on the site, it's not like you have to download them or anything, and if they're downright terrible it's pretty easy to tell. And by the way, I'm making a stick game that is trying to raise the bar...

There is nothing wrong with the GOTW poll.
Surely all full games should get into the GOTW even without screenshots. So why is there usually only four games.
anyway there is no excuse for no screenshots now anyway.

That's probably a good thing considering how much that game sucked...
Also, I don't think it's being overly critical to point out that a game blows. 95% of the stuff posted on this site is pure rubbish, and I'd personally be embarassed to upload anything as bad as some of the games that even make the front page here. If Klik games are ever going to be taken seriously, then a lot more effort needs to be put into the them.
Well, it's true. Games are sucking more and more these days, and I hope that's a sign that better games are coming. Unfortunately, 'better games' seem to be very few and far between, so I suppose we'll have to be happy with the crap and hope that my game and Terminal Orbit doesn't suck. To blame it all on newbie-ism isn't exactly fair. I said some really retarded things when I was a newbie, but I still made some fun games. Sure, they were sloppy, but fun enough to have fanatics.
Thus, I vote "yes" to that "OMG WTF THE COMMUNITY IS DYING" thing Tigerworks mentioned. All this aggression towards newbies is scaring them away, just like how all these angry teachers are ruining our education system . Every newbie is somewhat retarded, just the way every 5 year old doesn't know how to read (note the rare exceptions).
